    Chainsaws?

I wouldn't spend the money on the full sized M18 rear handle chainsaw. I'd go with a gas saw as there is just no value there with the larger cordless saw. The bulk alone of the cordless saw makes it a loser against s MS160. I would suggest that cutting a 10" tree down with a 6" blade was...

    Chainsaws?

For a gas chainsaw you can't go wrong with a Sthil or a Husqvarna. I'd be inclined to go with whichever your local dealer sells. They will be able to give you good, useful advice and help you familiarize yourself with the required maintenance for whichever saw you end up with. You're going to...

    Blacksmithing Anyone?

McKinnon Metals in Vaughan is my go to place for metals. Great service, very fair prices on small orders. Their service and pricing on cutting is also top notch. I built some cages to hold / protect some equipment at work using 3/4" 0.125" wall square tubing. Nothing too fancy, just some...

Durham cop demoted after crashing car on way home from bar, reporting it stolen to another police service

Yeah, he seems like the kind of person I want enforcing our laws.

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Absolutely. Unfortunately the news media will likely blame the commercial vehicle and the evil truck driver.

    Holiday destinations

Sorry for the late reply, I always look directly at the cruise line website and book from there. NCL is my favourite. www.ncl.com Do the advanced search when looking for a cruise. I just use the dates I want to travel and then sort by price low to high. There are some amazing deals to be...

    Pickup Trucks

Normal G license. It's just an overgrown pick up truck on a class 5 or 6 chassis.

Another Carlin gem was "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

    Holiday destinations

I am in the same boat (excuse the pun, or enjoy it as you see fit). Never thought I'd like cruising, but ever since my first one it's now my favourite way to travel. After cruising for a few years I looked into the price of an all inclusive resort and no thank you. We can cruise twice a year...

    What could it be?

My vote is also for skunk. Got a pair that like to tunnel under one of my garages. I had to drive some rebar down along the one side of the garage to keep them from returning. Easy enough to get them to leave for a few days. Just soak a rag in some Pine-Sol and toss it into the hole. Spread...

Hello Taxman! Toronto raising property tax by 10-16%

Long overdue. Should have been 20%, but you have to start somewhere.

    Feds plan to melt ICE

Yup, that was the point in time I was referring to. Once the big contracts stopped ordering the base models, they stopped producing them unless special ordered. It happened really fast. In ~5 years it went from base trucks, no options or AC being the standard to having guys bring trucks in...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I have an older Weller unit that is so heavy I could use it for home defense. I've been known to set it up in the vise and tie strap the trigger when I needed both hands free for soldering.

    Feds plan to melt ICE

In the late 90's every private fleet or government vehicle that was sold from the dealer I worked at were the quintessential plain Jane stripped down models. Durham Region was the first municipality to order A/C on their vehicles. A year or two later, all the municipal tenders required A/C...

    Feds plan to melt ICE

My father still has his slide rule that he used at U of T, and he graduated in '69. He is still old school when it comes to math. Everything is done by hand first, and maybe checked with a calculator but only maybe.

What did you do in your garage today..?

I have one of these and absolutely love it for soldering automotive wire. It's likely too large and powerful for a lot of electronics work, but for me it's great. Heats up quickly, seems to hold a lot of heat in the tip as it doesn't cool off quickly/dramatically when soldering 12ga wire and...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I'm toying with the idea of picking up a middle of the road Flir camera from Amazon ~$400 and using it to check for thermal leaks around windows and large garage doors. I wonder if a 256x192 model would be of much use for that purpose? Would a less expensive option still work? Also thinking of...

To Censor or not to Censor?

The heavy handed censorship of this forum is the reason I stopped visiting daily years ago. Edited to add: Not talking about topics of a political or religious nature either. If an aspect of motorcycling or GTA life that wasn't in line with their interests, it was gone in a cloud of BS...

What did you do in your garage today..?

This style extractor is best used for removing broken pipe fittings. Nothing works better on snapped off brass air line fittings or broken plastic manifold fittings. A close second for pipe fittings are the extractors that look like a square bar with a slight twist in them.

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Sounds like the cop was actually trying to do something about a bad driver who only makes gridlock worse. The TTC are some of the worst professional drivers on the roads.
