This just in from a lawyer friend - if convicted he's looking at hard time, no leniency.
Police can't keep people in jail, that's the court's job. Police obviously doing their job if he's been arrested over and over.

Unfortunately the news media will likely blame the commercial vehicle and the evil truck driver.
Apparently they got a year of pre-trial custody on the books. Who thinks that he will actually get a trial before that clock runs out? It seems strange to me to assign a length of time to pre-trial custody. Either they are convicted and should be punished or aren't yet convicted and should be incarcerated to protect the public. He's not going to be less of a dangerous idiot after a year in jail. In all likelihood, he will be worse.

My wife likes the US interstates that have huge distances between the opposing directions of traffic. I understand but even they have problems.
The trouble IMO is that the court case will be between the police and the driver of the black SUV. It needs to be investigated further back.
Who was their driving instructor?
Did they pay their way through part of the system?
Did they go to an out of town, easy pass location for their test?
Do we need a 400 series highway endorsement for drivers?
Unfortunately it's just a Provincial Offences Act ticket. Could easily have been a Dangerous Operation charge, based on what's in the video.
The hard part to get over is the “What if” factor.
What if a bus full of hockey players from Humboldt got hit by the truck and dozens were killed or injured?

It’s possible the driver has accident forgiveness and won’t see an increase. The fine will be chump change. He gets a new car.
A check of his drivers abstract would show a careless charge that wouldn’t stand out as any different than a normal fender bender.
We need an adder to the charge that highlights the serious consequences when there is injury or damages over $XX,000
