Sure there is. They aren't following it. You have stop and identify States. Then you have States that don't provide for that. It's not a Federal level thing, unless you mean a Constitutional Law issue. That's 4th Amendment; right against unreasonable search and seizure.

And they deserve to have the book thrown at them if that's the case.

I was simply pointing out I digest a lot of US policing content (long before ICE, etc) and I find the reports of 'demanding' ID are quite often sensationalised.

Plenty of them turn out to be a cop repeatedly asking for ID and having a heated argument. At no time was the citizen verbally or physically detained, if they didn't know to walk away then that's on them.

Probably none. Convictions of police officers for criminal acts while on the job make a huge mess. Everyone involved wants to make sure that doesn't happen. The chance of any getting convicted on a serious charge is very close to zero.

It's shocking that PSA charges can't be adjudicated now. There has to be enough evidence to fire them all with cause. We also need a way to clean up pensions for criminals. Whatever money the criminals cops put in should be handed back in a cheque. Any public money that was put in should be forfeited. We need to start suing them for salary over the years as they had one job and specifically did the opposite.

The union published the expected "we support our members and their mental health". F that. It should be "We are outraged at the actions our members are accused of. For bringing disrepute to this fine organization, we have kicked them out."
