Anyone into gardening here?

My pitcher plants are thriving outside. We also have less wasps at the moment. Coincidence? No.

Interesting, I take it you planted these for this purpose?
I might try this next year if these are easy to find.

I got them as they are weird and I always wanted to see if I could grow them. Turns out the ones I have are actually pretty easy to care for. They need a lot of light and are fine with the temperatures we have outside during the summer. They come inside into a sunny window for the winter. Their ability to actually catch a bunch of things is a big bonus. You can pick up some small ones from Lowe's/Rona whatever it is now. Give them the right conditions and they will grow pretty fast. I got some of mine, the bigger ones, from a speciality store in Quebec and one nearby in Kingston. Rose Cafe in Drummondville has a big selection of carnivorous plants and also lots of other things. The store at the botanical gardens in Montreal has some too. I know there’s a couple of stores in the GTA that specialize in these as well.

I have some other plants as well such as saracenia and drosera. These are a bit different. The only one I’m having an issue with is a Venus fly trap.

Edit: the vining pitcher plants are called Nepenthes. There’s lowland and highland ones. I have the easier ones to look after.

Garden has me itching from head to toe today.

Yesterday I cut and bucked up 2 15m tall box elder trees. It was hot, shorts and tee shirt weather.

Turn out I’m allergic to the sap. Yesterday I was covered in sweat soaked sawdust, today I’m covered with very itchy hives.

Glad I was wearing shorts - yesterday was hot enough to work naked.

We have got stinging nettles in our garden somehow. That’s been an interesting surprise at times.

I’m experimenting with repotting the house plants that are currently outside into a semi-hydroponic medium of clay pebbles. I want to see if they grow better and also this way I'll get less outside bugs inside. 10lbs of the clay pebbles are $34 on Amazon. I put sphagnum moss on the top of the pots and they look pretty neat and the plants seem stable. Bonus is the pots are way lighter now too. I bought a 10 pack of self watering orchid pots of Amazon too.
