Where to get a puppy?

Don’t worry too much about the heads coming out when you pull one off..
you should try to get them off within 24 hours or so.. before they’ve had a chance to pass on disease.
Our SOP whenever I walk her anywhere other than sidewalks or groomed trails is to do a tick check on the dog and me as soon as we walk in the door.. i strip right down. I haven’t found one on the dog yet.. but found 2 on me last season.. neither had a chance to attach yet.
How can you find them right off the bat? The only reason I found this one was because it was large / gorged already.

Dog has fairly thick hair and seeing anything tiny is difficult.

But will def do more checks nowadays. We’re next to Erindale Park and while we went once, I kept her off the grass. Neighbour says every time he lets his dog loose at Erindale there’s 2-3 ticks.

It’s definitely easier for me.. mine has short tan fur, front legs are white on bottom halves and rear paws are white.. I pay closer attention to the paws, between toes and pads, and legs, under her “leg pits” or whatever they’re called.. I haven’t found one of this dog yet, but others I know usually find them in the “leg pit” area.
we’re pretty diligent about tick meds.
When I found them on me.. the first was on my arm, near arm pit and the other was crawling on the back of my knee. If we’ve been off trail.. I strip as soon as I get in the door and all clothes go in the dryer for a bit.

They like to climb. My brother normally finds them high on his dog (shoulders, back of neck, etc) or in the paws. On people we found them in similar places.

If you extract a tick that bit a person or dog, put it in a labeled ziploc bag in the freezer with a bit of rubbing alcohol. You can get the ticks tested for lyme disease. It's not worth doing it for all of them, but if someone starts to get weird symptoms, you can get them tested to see if the ticks were the cause of the suck.

We also found one on our dog a couple of years ago or so.
We put it in a zip lock bag and took the dog and tick tot he vet.

The vet tried to get us to test the tick AND the dog for any disease. Wife was smart to decline the dog but test the tick.
If they tick didn't have lyme disease, how would the dog have it ? $$$$$$$ ?

My x used to remove ticks from our dog with a cigarette.
She'd put the heater from the butt on the ticks back, and it would instantly spin out.
The dog didn't gaf either.

I have to check. My wife has the medication name around here somewhere.

Dog still go nuts at me sometimes. Barking, nipping, and grabbing me. Getting annoying

She’s great for most of the time, and then something snaps and she starts growling, but still wagging her tail. Almost like she wants the attention, and to play.

Has there been any formal training? You owe it to her. Get it done.
