Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

spiral heaters look good , umbrella lid heaters work more efficiently.

went to a bar yesterday with friends to hear live music, almost normal
I'll be honest...it felt really good to sit down for a pint with friends in a bar. It's been so long that it was nice to see 'normal'.

We are officially back in the office 3 days/week. I hate it….

Not the social aspect of seeing colleague, just ridiculous how we’re here….and most of our calls are still on TEAMS.
I had a meeting with a supplier who was in from Montreal. He was frustrated as some companies were refusing in person meetings and wanted him to do a video call. He expressed the stupidity of spending time and money coming to the GTA to video call with them and he would be in touch after he returned to Montreal.

Yup...same here. Majority of our teams are working with consultants, and they're not in the office....

I also forgot how much fun it is to have 4 different conversations happening at the same time around me. First world problems I guess.

It's been close to 3-4 years since I've been in an office environment...so that's part of it I guess. Ah well.

Either time to find a new job, or suck it up and wait until the next lockdowns.

Well as a career sales weasel here is my take, if he travelled from Montreal without having meetings pre booked and knowing if he would be allowed in the office , given the last two years, he is possibly too stupid to meet with.

They had the meetings booked. There apparently needed to be a clearer discussion as to the meeting location. Not my circus. Not my monkey.

We had a Teams meeting with a property owner…they showed up at the property as we were all on TEAMS waiting for them.

Good times.

We have a hard rule right now , no outsiders in office , meet at a neutral location .
Just had 8 people test positive in one of our mill locations. I won’t visit there till 2024

Our office will not allow anyone unvaccinated to come in…but no one checks the status.

So meetings with more outsiders are to be held under contractor office as they don’t have the vaccine mandate.

Silliness.

Our ownership group takes this very seriously , you provide proof of vax to HR, or you don't come into the office. Simple. Life in the private sector is easier to juggle.

So I bought a string of edison lights to put around the back yard, spent two hours nailing to the fence , making them even and nice. Plug in , nothing. Change extension cord, nothing. Get meter, power at recepticle, no power in sockets , dead short in molded plug. Back to HomoDepot and get another string. Will test first.

We have a strict policy, outsiders coming into the building - MASK. Delivery drivers using the rest rooms, mask and VAX proof.

If they can't produce one, we have a picnic table outside in the parking lot that can be used as a meeting room, and a ravine behind the office for a latrine.

Instead of HomoDepot, we bought ours from Costco and they are great. Been left outside for the last 3-4 years and not one bulb has failed.

I think they are these ones and they sometimes go on sale down to around $30: https://www.costco.com/feit-electric-48'-led-filament-string-light-set.product.100405061.html

I had one string of lights from CT that was manufactured in a way that it wasn't possible to stretch it out. It was multiple wires and sometime during assembly it was allowed to pass through itself. The only way to fix it would have been to cut it apart and redo it. Of course I bought it long before and didn't test it at the time so there was nothing I could do. I used them wrapped around the base of a tree where a big tangle of lights didn't look bad.

We had that happen to a heating cable, knotted during assembly. We took hours trying to figure it out if it was like a Chinese wire puzzle, if we twist this and pull that through the loop etc, before we gave up and cut it.

FINALLY got a hold of someone at ENERCARE to figure out my options:

1. eligible for direct exchange with 15 month free rental @ current rate of $25/month after 15 months
2. Enercare picks up the hot water tank - no charge
3. I drop off the hot water tank - no charge
4. I buy out the tank for $28.25

Tank was installed in 2005.

I'm leaning toward option #4.

That's amazing. #4 without thinking. Would have done it while on the call. Assuming you aren't planning to sell your house in the next two years, do not under any circumstances get back on the extortion treadmill. Ideally, even if you were going to sell your house shortly and needed a new tank, you would eat the cost to try to minimize the profit of such an evil company.

I still think heat pump hot water is a good way to go for most people if they can afford the upfront cost.
