Anyone here a cyclist?

so which part of that lead you to believe I drive around 20km/h over the limit and blow stop signs and red lights?

Stopping at stop signs is just a good excuse to practice track stands.

Having said that yes cyclists roll stop signs all the time and it can become a bad habit started by rolling signs with no traffic until it becomes so habitual that they roll when there is opposing traffic not even thinking. You also get the TdF peleton groups that do it out of misguided perceived privilege.

Does not matter if the cyclist is right or wrong the combination of physics and biology always wins at the point of impact.... it even trumps seat angle!
I had a middle aged woman roll a stop sign in front of me this morning while I was stopped and going to turn right. Instead of slowing down (or heaven forbid stopping at her stop sign) to let me go, she set herself up to get passed in an S bend. Amazing. Her brain must be full of good ideas.

So which part of you giving equal weight to speeding and blowing stop signs and red lights would make me assume you drive around 20km/h over the limit and blow stop signs and red lights?

Not always roll. I've seen some cyclists plow into the side of a car that had stopped and then proceeded at an all-way stop.

Sounds like you lowered yourself, rather than rising above then.

? My choices were cut her off so she had to slam on the brakes (or my car), follow her through the S bend at 10 km/h (she was bleeping slow) or pass her in the S bend. Which choice do you think I was supposed to make?

first off no one mentioned blowing red lights, that part of the conversation is a figment of your imagination, second, I asked GM if he thinks following the speed limit is less important than obeying stop signs, and you made the dumb assumption that I was giving it equal weight, then you took it a step further and made another dumb assumption that I drive 20km/h over the limit, how did you even come up with 20? why not 100? 100 definitely sounds more dramatic

Your comprehension is lacking. Go back and reread what I wrote. Nowhere did I write you drive at 20kmh over the limit. I wrote go drive at 20 kmh over while running stop signs and reds and see which of those two HTA infringements bites you in the azz first. Your calling out Green Meanie because he said he speeds was a lame pot-shot, and you know it.

After lots of years of doing stupid things, and watching my family & friends do stupid things, I've learned that stupidity is contagious. In my youth I might have done exactly what you did, although I would probably have leaned towards cutting her off and accelerating away. Now however, I'd take a different route, pull off, take a side street, make a U turn, and then double back in ten minutes, if it was a good route. Just because it's contagious, doesn't mean you have to catch it.

some love to highlight others breaking the rules, but will have every excuse in the book for their own transgressions.

As a cyclist, i stop at stop signs when there's cars around.

What i do when no cars are around, well no one knows as they can't see me doing it.

What i dislike is stopping at a stop sign, when car stopped clearly before me. I unclip, put my foot down, and the car is still waiting for me to go.
IF I STOPPED FOR YOU, YOU BETTER HURRY UP AND GET GOING.

I respect the fact that they're concerned enough, and don't want to run me over.
I'll wait, and keep waving them on, until they go, or I lose patience.

I respect that too. Thats why i end up starting up in an out of saddle effort for no reason to get out of their way.
Obviously that's usually the time when i'm unable to clip in without looking or fumbling, unlike the other 20 times i've done it during that same ride lol

Hey all I was able to adjust my seat to be more horizontally straight. It's a click/rachet type adjustment, so I could only move it 1 click to make it straight. No other adjustments were possible. It's a bit different or just my butt is getting use to it again.

I know my bike it a bit small for me as it impacts my knees, specifically my left knee, which happens to be the one I put down at intersections or stops with the motorcycle. Since I have been riding my bike I have noticed something being off on my left knee. I didn't notice this before or the rest of the season, or last year as I didn't really ride the bike. I really should get a proper sized bike and aviod knee issues. I've been trying for 2 years but something has some up, now this stupid COVID. Always next year I guess.

Another way to look at it....

At the ~half century mark I have been having knee problems for a couple of decades and in the last five years some random hip problems. I am not a small guy either (but for the record I am not "Jacked", lol). My left knee is the worst and I know the exact cause, competitive kickboxing in my early 20s eventually caught up with me, and them some. Working at a desk for the last 30 years does not help. I have always been a cyclist to some extent but in the last few years I have really stepped it up again with an eye to some possible re-entry into the "competitive" aspects of the sport in the near future (not there yet, and of course as much as I hate the term senior blah blah....). If I get there or not is another story, long way to go. But regardless of my fatness, getting more people on a bicycle is a bit of a passion for me.

What it has done for me lately, my hip and knee problems have greatly diminished (I mean a huge dramatic amount, to almost none), I credit this to being on the bike AND a proper fit (lucky for me I don't have to pay someone for this). It is a low impact sport on the joints that can be very beneficial, when done right or very detrimental if done wrong.

sburns I am in the west end of Toronto (Etobicoke), if you are close by I am more than willing to check out your bike fit for you and give you some free in person social distancing pointers.

Now if I could do the same for my sholders (torn and seized)... hard living always gets you back. :)

Another fella here with both knees having torn meniscus subsequently repaired with surgery.

The pain was so bad, I couldn’t walk the dogs or sleep comfortable at night.

I would ride my bike along side my wife as she walked the dogs. Which lead to her taking up cycling more.

Now, my wife and I ride about an hour a day, low impact and can tell you my knees have never felt better.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. The crane collapse downtown almost hit a cyclist. She bailed and the bike got crushed. On the upside, she can probably get a pretty nice bike from Daniels.
