The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

3x? Pfft. Friend of mine was pulled over by the NPP on the Parkway by the Whirlpool coming from Lakey's @ 10:30am going to the Half-Way to sleep it off. Blew .33. That's just north of 4x. Cops couldn't believe he could stand up.

Having your buddy charged with auto theft , if its a bogus claim should trigger some giving a false statement charge and some other stuff shouldnt it ? Geez that guy needs a less stupid social circle
Yup. If false, it would be a charge.

I have an interest in the concept as I once came too close to being involved.

I loaned my M/C to my brother (Permission given) but unknown to me he let an unlicensed, untrained person (Permission not given) take it for a spin...into the back of a car. No damage to the car in the days of massive chrome bumpers and no injuries. Bike had front end damage.

My brother came up with a crap story but the truth came out years later.

If, instead of a minor rear ender, the unlicensed rider had seriously injured a pedestrian could the insurer deny coverage?

I've heard of a charge "taken without permission". How is that different from theft?

If I charged the rider with theft, insurance would be off the hook because the crash happened in the commission of a crime. (The victims of the Yonge Street massacre didn't get anything from the insurer of the vehicle.)

Loaning vehicles scares me. I'll drive you to a rental place.

Wow. Stop for 25 over turned into seven tickets, $1300 in fines and 11 demerit points (most related to failing to secure children). Ouch.

How to lose your license in one stop.

I wonder how old this "G1 License Holder" was?

EDIT - I should note that I used to know a girl who would write her M1 at the beginning of summer, every year, so that she could legally ride her scooter. Never got her M.

One of the youngins at my work triggered the flash of a speed camera in KW. 90+ in a 40. Added bonus, flashing school zone. $1,350 total when he got his winning prize notification in the mail last week. Couldn't have happened to a smarmier guy.

In this case, working as intended...

G1 driver in a Tesla 3…easy enough to speed in one of those….let alone for an inexperienced driver.

As for age, I knew plenty of G2 drivers that forgot to do the G and ended up being bounced back to a G1.

I also see MUCH more unsecured kids in cars from a certain country that starts with an I and ends with an A (or thereabouts). Same goes for riders being helmeted and their female passengers not wearing any gear (also without helmet) on the back of the bike.

For the criminal in your family…the perfect Christmas gift…

G-1 and M-1 are written tests only. No actual driving skill has to be demonstrated.

In Ontario, a G1 license is the first level of the graduated licensing system for drivers. It's essentially a learner's permit, allowing new drivers to practice driving under certain restrictions. To obtain a G1, you need to be at least 16 years old and pass a vision and knowledge test.

I'm quite aware of all that, having obviously gone through the process myself decades back.

I'm wondering if this person is, say, middle aged and, if so, what the reason is for needing to start the licensing process at G1. Not coming from a place where a license could be transferred from? License cancelled, for some reason, and needing to start over? Just never needed/got one until now?

I misread the FB post. When I saw all the under 16 charges I assumed the driver was 16. It was the passengers the driver had to take responsibility for that racked up points.

Infuriating. Complete failure of the system results in lifelong consequences for young innocent victims. If you get in a crash while driving with three lifetime driving prohibitions, the hammer needs to be fast and large. F that guy.

It's pretty hard to maim someone while driving a car drunk when you're in Gen-Pop.
