Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I will have to check. $1500 was with me excavating the soil which is fine, the old shed is in the same place and once that’s gone it won’t be an issue. The guy will do it properly I’m sure. He’s an old school stone guy.

My old shed is a rubber made one. Smaller, cracked floor but still in one piece. Was going to advertise it on Kijiji as take it for free but you have to remove it in one day and once you commit it’s yours.
Just my $0.02:
My dad did a smooth finish for the shed floor.
He said if you do the brush finish, it's a PITA to get out dirt that will inevitably end up there.

We did his slab in 1989, mine in 2002.
Both smooth
Both clean.

I did a 2" wider slab than the shed.
I'm about 2-2 1/2 feet away from the fence
I ended up putting some old interlocking around it as I use it for storage.
Snow build up/ water leakage not an issue with the caulking advice given earlier in the thread.
*Check how the water drains from the shed
iirc some plastic sheds allowed water to drain down the interior walls to drainage holes. If that's the case with yours, caulk the inside.

I want another shed but wife won’t let me ‘clutter’ the yard any more.

‘Throw out the junk you don’t need/use first’ she says…

She doesn’t understand PACKRATS/HOARDERS.

Mother Nature is not cooperating with my attempts to grow grass on my 2 acre lawn. Hydroseed ($2500) in early July mostly washed away from downpour 40hrs later. Reseed ($200) by hand the following week was half washed away 4 days later. Fertilizer put down 3 weeks ago (pretty much just feeding the weeds at this point). Reseed again ($200) last Friday and again mostly washed away by Tuesday nights storm.
Each storm was unexpected a few days prior with no more than 10mm of rain expected on any day. Fixed erosion and reseeded some spots more than 5 times and still destroyed so I’m giving up this year and will put down some sod on the erosion parts and reseed the entire thing next Spring. Also annoying is that since the driveway is on the list to be paved it’s a bit lower than yard so grass seed washes away onto the driveway and then starts to grow so I have to kill it there to keep it prepped for asphalt. I always felt the ceiling in this room was a little low but figured it was just an illusion, now I know why.... It is over 1.5" thick! Multiple layers.

The kicker, I was going to drywall over the entire ceiling....

Edit... I guess I will need to go buy a deeper ceiling box....

A friend from down east said they sowed a nurse crop of oats with the grass. The oats come up fast but you can't let the mowing get ahead of you. The oats don't come back the second year.

I went to buy a spray can to paint the new deck railing but the shelves at CT and HD looked like they were looted. The sales person at HD said it's part of the C-19 global supply issue. I could brush on oil base but they can't sell it to non pros.

huh??? If its on the shelf you can buy it. There is nothing at HD that is 'pro only'.

I think you need to change stores. Or sales person.

Is that 5 layers of drywall?

maybe.....

owner 1 - water damage, throw up 1/4 to cover it. bad taping etc job
owner 2 - another 1/4 inch to cover bad job, stucco it.
owner 3 - hates stucco, covers with 1/4. another bad taping job.
owner 4 - another 1/4 to cover bad job, stucco it.

They being the industry. HD doesn't carry traditional oil. Tremclad gets away with "Oil" by using fish oil or something.

Same with Benjamin Moore. Very little in the way of oil. If I want oil I seem to have no problem with getting it at a boat supply but colours are limited.

I need to get a concrete pad put in for a new shed. Decided to do it properly and permanently. Needs to be for a 8x10 shed so I guess a foot larger each dimension? Anyone know about how much this costs? It’s in the back yard, access to the front driveway for delivery is about 30-40 feet away I’d guess. Is that an issue for concrete delivery?
Typically a floating pad sits on top of a 6"well drained and compacted gravel bed, which in turn is on top of undisturbed soil. I wouldn't extend the pad beyond the building envelope, there is no practical benefit. If you have room, I'd do the shed 10x12 as that's typically the max size allowed without a building permit.

Concrete will run you about 2m3 of concrete which costs between $400-$500 delivered. The hard part is moving stuff. That's about 30 runs of excavated dirt and sod (if you can't spread it in the yard) + another 30 of stone in for your base and another 30 of concrete. You will need 3 concrete runners for this (energy and time) and another person raking out the concrete at the pad. Another option is to hire a pumper, that will probably add another $300 but make the concrete moving easier.

Trying to empty out the pool but the tiny pump dad has is struggling.

Any recommendations? Ideally a submersible, 110V and good for 16,000L.
We empty our pool using the pool's own pump.

1) If your pump is removed each season, pull it out place it at the edge of the pool and add a 10' suction hose (princess auto). Tue the backwash hose to wherever the waste is going.

2) Connect your pool vacuum, leave it sucking while the pump is running and the filter set to waste. That will also drain your pool. If you have an air leaky connection in the skimmer, keep a garden hose running into it to prevent it from sucking air.

Our house is 35 years old. It has a roughed in fireplace in the finished basement. Three times in the last 10 years i have had water come in where the fireplace is and wet the carpet. It only happens when the wind is really strong from the west.I hired a guy 10 years ago to fix it. He didn't. Was and idiot. Hired another foundation specialist that tore out the inside wall and found the upper part of the fireplace was not built properly. He also capped the chimney.
My question..... Still leaks during bad storms. Where do i go to find someone to fix this?
I don't have time to work on it myself and take care of my wife.

I've had a few people tell me this. Basically the reason behind going wit hydroseed first was for it to grow quicker and would knock down the dust while the growing gets started (they use mostly shredded newspaper as fibers to coat ground and for seed to latch onto). Oats wouldn't have helped as they would have washed away same as the grass seed.

I've used the pool pump to empty as well but since it comes out so fast it makes more of a mess on the street so I just used our submersible pump most years. Takes most of the afternoon but it works well. Still have it which you could borrow if you were closer.

Deck extension is almost done. Just waiting for the railing guy to come finish that part up. 20x12' extension.

Backsplash in our bar was finished up last weekend and really finishes off the kitchen nicely. Celebrated that with a drink.

Thanks guys. Got the 1/4 hp pump posted from CT and it did a great job. 6” left in the pool but I want the water in there to clean the pool liner on the inside and the slight algae on the bottom edge. Took about 6-8hrs total but I turned it off for the night as I didn’t want to run it at night and burn itself out.

Why did you completely drain a pool?

Temporary pool with soft sides. I don’t think they’re good to be left outside.

Plus I’ll be digging a hole soon in order to have a proper level space for it for next season.

In addition, got the new trailer set to its resting place.
