Vespa on the 401, totally do-able but...

15 years ago I was crusing down the 400 doing about 120 when a vespa passed by me... I was so surprised at the time, I had my wife take a video on whatever crappy device we had handy at the time:

    Starlink speeds

Ain't that the truth... here's a shot of a speed test I ran back in May 2022 after opening the cottage: Upload speeds have particularly dropped since I first subscribed.

    Starlink speeds

Yes - signed up Feb 2021 as soon as it was available in my area and was put on waiting list for a year. Order went through Feb 2022 and we've had uninterrupted service since then.

    Starlink speeds

Yes, streaming works no problem - the only times I _sometimes_ have issues are when both my wife and I are video conferencing at the same time (so both using upload pipe) or when I'm video gaming during prime time. Gaming is workable (counter strike, pugb, etc) but I do get packet loss at...

    Starlink speeds

I find it fluctuates quite a bit at times, but generally speaking I can expect 100-150 Mbps down and 15-20 Mbps up. Right now these are my speed test results (from both dishy and ookla) on a drizzly Sunday afternoon half-way between Haliburton and Bancroft:

    Pickup Trucks

Kind of sounds like my driving habits. I bought a 2020 ram truck new, and it's just about to hit 50k. At least 15k of those are in 4wd low on very bumpy seasonal roads. ZERO issues with it, and it's a limited with all the fancy gadgets I didn't really want like electronic running boards etc...

Adding an extra battery to my RV

That's another advantage with LiFePO4 - the ability to parallel batteries with varying capacities with very little downside. Here is an extreme example:

Adding an extra battery to my RV

I don't think you'd have any _extra_ issues with overheating compared to lead acid/agm - as long as you're not leaving the batteries in direct sunlight or beside another heat source I'd think you should be fine. And yes, as GreyGhost points out iron phosphate is much safer than the other...

Adding an extra battery to my RV

Are you using lead acid or AGM at the moment and how many amp hours is your battery? You may not be interested in changing chemistries but have you thought about going LiFePO4? Ever since switching to lithium iron phosphate for my off-grid cottage and portable 12v needs I'll never go back...

Alibaba anyone order stuff from here

I use LiFePO4 battery cells for off-grid energy storage and you can't beat the prices from trusted sources on Alibaba. You can sometimes find deals on AliExpress but it's more of a risky venture since there are more scammers on that site. Buying anything from local suppliers or even random...

    Boat experts

I saw you had a 1500 in an earlier post, so I posted the trailering pic to give you size perspective. That pic is actually where we got the Switch - Delta Power Equipment in Seaforth which is primarily a farm machinery business. You can buy them from any Can-Am/BRP dealer.

    Boat experts

If you're considering a jet boat like the Sea Doo Speedster/Sportster/Challenger you might also want to consider the new Switches. I only have 10 hours on mine (18 foot, 230hp), but so far I'm loving it. The low speed handling has been changed from the older jet boats to the newer PWC style -...

    Boat insurance holey @#%@...

Yeah, in the grand scheme of things $650 for a year of insurance isn't horrible by any means, I'm just surprised it's more than motorcycle insurance. I would have thought biking was a much more risky activity than boating, but other factors at play I suppose. Thanks for checking with your...

    Boat insurance holey @#%@...

Seems like boat insurance went up AGAIN this year... I picked up a Sea Doo Switch (tri-toon jet boat) and am struggling to find insurance under $600. MD marine seems to be the cheapest option at the moment, any other suggestions for quotes?

    DT 200 1990 $1500

I still rip around on my dt200r from time to time... fun bikes! I'm tempted to grab this as a parts machine... but I already have quite a few spares and in the 3 years I've owned this bike I haven't had to repair a thing!

Splitting the season: riding vs boating

I never liked pontoon boats that much, but the new Sea Doo Switch models might have changed my mind... they sure are popular though, apparently they have sold out across Canada for 2022 already.

Anyone know what this could be?

Could it be a water heater instead of a fireplace? I've seen similar looking boxes on cottages that use propane hot water heaters...

    Meatless meals

I can't believe no one's mentioned Indian yet... some of the best vegetarian (and even vegan) dishes are Indian in my opinion! Also can't go wrong with pizza or tacos/burritos... even if you don't like refried beans there are a lot of other protein options (such as those fake ground beef...

    Snow bikes

If I were to snowbike, I'd head to cottage country (Bancroft for example) and look for seasonal cottage roads. There are hundreds of kilometers of them, and they would be perfect for snowbikes I would imagine. I don't think there would be any rules against riding on them, and you can just park...
