It took 3 hours to drive a 7-minute walk in Toronto Tuesday

I posted a while back about the signage issue. The roads are controlled by dump truck drivers. By the time you see a sign you're past the point of no return. Morons control the roads and idiots let them do it.

I avoided it on Tuesday, by getting on the DVP south at O'connor Drive.
But a pair of work trucks parked in the live traffic lane on the South Kingsway exit, forcing two directions to use a single lane.
Late Wednesday Don Mills was closed at O'Connor, and the South Kingsway exit was closed.

I've taken over 45 minutes to go four blocks along Front Street before.

This used to be rush hour pre-covid on most days.
When the Jays played...oh lordie.

Traffic was bad today. My girlfriend (yes, i said it) drove up to Parry Sound today to spend a week with her daughter and grandkids. Only took her 5 hours from Kitchener. Lol.

Glad to see you adding more enjoyable things in your life.

If you ever need a break on the drive or room to wait out the storm, you know where I live.

A lot of the problem is the sheer amount of projects ongoing simultaneously is adding to the pain.

Had to get my tires done on the east end…took me over 3hrs to cross the city to get home. Every single road was closed, blocked, or narrower due to a construction project.

There should be a simple process. No projects within Xkm of each other and whoever gets the permit first…they have priority.

With SSE, Ontario Line, and ECWE all going to be running simultaneously I hope I never have to drive into the city again for the foreseeable future.

I’ll be driving from Geraldton on Wednesday, hopefully the roads won’t be closed. Cold up this way-27 last night with windchills

Toronto, the city without a plan, news at 11, rain is still wet.

Is why we have a thread like this

While extreme in the video above commute times are on a steep increase in and around the GTA (as well as many other places)
in my area, I am always confused when I see them building 100's of homes and do nothing about the streets and road until well after the homes are built then they have the nerve to post signs like "making your commute better" blah blah blah. I 100% agree with @mimico_polak there needs to be a better timeline and spacing for large road work etc.

As an easy first step, if a road is being opened up, utilities should be notified so they can get in on the hole. So many roads get cut every year due to lack of coordination. This reduces lifespan substantially. Add a huge penalty for a utility to open a road that was recently open. Plan instead of react.

I was happy to see that when they installed fibre in our neighbourhood, they used conduit. Laying wires that become obsolete always seemed like a make work project. Upgrading to a new standard or repairing a damaged line only takes a few minutes now instead of heavy equipment and days of work.

Let's take a look at three different projects...

1. Lakeshore and Park Lawn has built up massively over the last decade. Now they're adding more towers (or already did) at the old Mr. Christie factory.....ZERO road upgrades
2. Lakeshore / Browns Line...Minto...thousands of people moving in to a small parcel...ZERO road upgrades
3. Cawthra / Lakeshore...huge community being built up...ZERO road upgrades
4. Mississauga Rd / Lakeshore...huge community firing up...ZERO road upgrades

It's ridiculous what will be happening in those areas. And traffic congestion will be huge.

And these are all along Lakeshore...which should in theory have a simple streetcar solution. The line ends at Browns Line. I say built a tunnel. It'll keep me employed longer.

The Mr christie area also has crap transit access. City was happy to accept DC's but didn't really care how the people were supposed to live there.

EDIT:
Unrelated to topic at hand but there were interesting studies conducted for some of those buildings to try to keep a derailed train from falling through the parking garages.

This is the perfect world. Reality is so messed up it's not funny.

The majority of my time on our project is dealing with property and utility issues. Unfortunately the vast majority of the time...they are intertwined.

for lakeshore corridor in sauga theres a project in the works but... the real question is when

Exactly. I'd prioritize that one, but they won't be able to get it started because the developers will now claim that the condition / traffic patterns on Lakeshore are changed from the time of their bid.

CLAIM!

So now they have to let the development finish up, and THEN they can do the street work. Which will include a CRAPTON of utility relocations.

How many bridges cross the Credit River south of the 403? Any plans for more?

The first step for a new highway is land acquisition. Cost $20,000 a foot or more based on a couple million an acre?

4 currently, plus a rail line. Do we need more? Not if we plan accordingly.

Why add more highways? What we need is better transit. This will allow the highways to ease up IF, and only IF, you have a viable / reliable / affordable / timely access to transit.

I would love nothing more to go from Erindale Station - Scarborough Centre Station via transit...but I can't. I can...at 2x the time required by car. I'm not willing to do that, and I get my transit pass free!

I'm almost temped to apply to a downtown project because I can just hop on the train near my house, and then hop out at Union with a 5min walk to the office.

Let me dust off my CV.

It's the best.
Get out of my house to catch the bus to get to the go train. And im at work 40 minutes later.

It would take me about the same amount of time by car. And more if i go during rush hour (which starts a 7AM and ends 12 hours later)
