Best sport touring bikes for long distance

How do you find the legroom on yours?
I looked at some pics online and it seems pretty relaxed on the XR - kind of between the Vstrom and the Multi.
Very relaxed, the pegs are not swept back or high at all.

I was on both the 1000XR and the 15+DVT 1200MTS at the same dealer side by side and the riding triangle is similar with the MTS pegs feeling a bit lower from the seat compared to the XR (MTS a bit more relaxed in knees).
The 15+ Multi's are larger than the earlier ones. Also the 15+ have adjustable seat position of 20mm between the upper/lower positions giving you more leg room. I'm 5'10" and prefer it in the upper position.

Awesome that is really good to know. I’ll go check out the 15+ models and see how they fit.

Yeah I saw that the other day and thought the same thing. I really like them.

I actually test rode a 2010 Multistrada last night for about 40km and was prepared to buy it on the spot. I had the chance to open it up and get a feel for it and really liked the handling and power delivery. The Termi exhaust sounded awesome too, but too loud for everyday rides, especially super long days.
I'm also not sure I can live with the foot positioning. I know there are peg relocation kits, but the bend at the knee is way to much for me on the Multi, especially with the longer days I like to do. I guess I've just gotten so used to my recent bikes that have had a more relaxed bend at the knees. The Termi exhaust also reinforced for me the need to have a quieter bike, so I'm not that guy in my neighbourhood.

So unless the ergonomics have improved on the newer models or the Multi GT versions, I'm back to looking at other bikes. At least my wife said to exclude 2up riding on the bike criteria because she doesn't see herself riding longer trips with me enough for it to play a factor. So now that opens up the TracerGT to me as probably my top choice.
I'm loving my new 2019 tracer gt. Plenty of power, cruise, quick shifter, what's not to like?
Hit me up if you want to put some miles on one.

Everything is top heavy when you’re 3ft 2 🧐

Srsly tho. My GS weighs 50lbs heavier, and it takes nowhere near the effort to get off the sidestand than the XR. Love that boxer engine.

And it's got a taller seat height as well -- so F U with the 3ft2. It's actually 4ft9 thankyoufookingmuch!!!!

speaking of boxer engines, I've always wanted an RT, but im not baller enough to get a brand new one atm, the shaft drive is a black box of mystery to me, it may fail tomorrow or 2 years down the line, worst case scenario, how much does it cost to replace/repair one?

Average $1000 parts + labour.

New ones have gotten more reliable. The earlier R1200 series were really bad till they changed the design.

Hey Jay,

Thanks for posting this up and that's a pretty sweet ride (both of them).

I have $7k saved up and it will still take me at least a few more months to save up the rest, so no way I could get something at your needed price point until much later in the year.

What’s the current loan rate at Bank of Waterloo J?
I wonder if honda does financing for private used bikes like harley

I was at Kelley's Cycle in Hamilton Today.

They actually have the new Tracer 9 GT in stock. Side cases are not on as they are still waiting for them to ship.

I was actually impressed and the bike looks much better in person than in marketing photos.

From the little time I had on it, seat felt comfortable (common complaint of the previous models).
I also like the fact that the key ignition is placed in between the tank and the bars and not the bars and the speedo.

not seeing any base model on the website, did they just get rid of it?

I would hope they do what they did with the mt09 and have still have an updated base model along with an expensive SP version

I spoke with one of the guys there (Larry) and he said that in Canada we o my got the GT version.

Regular version only available in Euro and US.
I was quite surprised to hear that.
