Any GTAM'ers have a tiny/micro camper?

Long, long ago, in a different thread. Yeah, pretty sure it happened.

I kinda wondered if it happened again with the squaredrop camper in Kirkfield we looked at as well. I got the last laugh on that one though, if the person who ended up buying it out from under me while I was negotiating a better price, well, if you paid asking price, well, they could have got a brand new one without all the dents and wear and tear for not a lot more. ;)

Teardrops/squaredrops are all in the "no bathroom" category.

A compromise we looked at was one of the newer style "pop back" style things (can't find the pic right now) which were basically a partial tent trailer but the rear popped up on a 45 degree angle giving standing room at the back (and room for a porta-potty, key goal) but lowering to the head of the bed at the front. But for $12K it was basically a box with some fabric sides that popped up. If you wanted a fridge and a few other things you were into $15+K territory which seemed insane for what you got. And they're all lead sleds - steel frames, etc. And I don't really wan't something with fabric walls that you have to worry about being perfectly dry when you put the trailer away otherwise it's a moldy disaster the next time you open it up, etc.

This trailer in the end checks all the boxes, plus some actually that we didn't really plan to get to again, but meh....

How much time do spend on the road? The trailer in the pic is great for getting into and around towns and city's if need be.
 
We rarely sit still for more than a night or maybe 2 when we're camping. Even when we had our big 5th wheel years ago we were ALWAYS moving around. Sitting in one spot, unless you're really somewhere epic (we stayed 4 nights in Banff when we were out there, for example...2 nights in the Black Hills on the way back, etc) is boring to us.

Whereas some people go camping and sit in one place for 2, 3...4...5+ nights, we are nomadic - if we travelled for a week, we were in a different area with different scenery and different things to see and do between those places at least 3-4 times.

We also really love boondocking. On our trip to Gaspe last fall we spent a grand total of 1 night in an actual campground. The rest of the trip we spent every night somewhere different, whereever the wind took us and we found a nice spot to spend the night. Like this little spot in the heart of Gaspesie national park.

We did the same thing with our 5th wheel a lot as well, the only difference being it was a lot more limiting where we could squeeze ourselves into when you're pushing 50 feet long...almost 70 feet if we had our Jetskis behind the 5th wheel.

The small trailer experience (now that we don't need all that other space for the kids and such) was liberating.
 
Was that hwy 132 you traveled on? my wife and i do the same. we try not to hit the campgrounds to often.
my plan is to do132 on my bike this summer if all the stars align

No, 299. 299 goes through the heart of the park following the winding salmon river.

We'd considered 132 but from what I've read it's not anywhere near as nice....just more towns and such.

299 on the other hand is out there. But that's what we wanted. Waking up in the morning and grabbing a hot coffee and my camp chair and going to sit by the river with this view....well, can't be beat.

Little to nothing the whole 140km stretch however except wilderness, so bring what you need if you're going to spend a night or two. Zero cell service either.

That trip is what rekindled our desire to own a camper again, honestly. We very much have the "been there, done that" tshirts already in various sizes and colours, but just hadn't realized how much we'd missed it I guess.

But like I said, the difference this time around is we didn't want a huge tow vehicle again, so the goal is to (hopefully, jury will be out until we try it out the first time) use what we have. If the Volt isn't up to the task after the fact, well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it I guess.

And also like I said, the tiny trailer versus the land yacht was very liberating. Honestly, we spend so little time *in* the trailer anyways (even when we had the land yacht) that we don't need a ton of space anymore.

bingo, that's how i treat most places when i travel. it's a place to lay my head only, no point in splurging.

If you corner one they get nasty real fast, My friend had a bunch of babies in the attic of his old house. Even as small little critters they can do damage

right. my uncle dealt with this for the better part of a year. had a family burrow into his attic, he paid some guy to remove them.

few weeks later another family moved in, apparently they spray the area so everyone knows where to find a comfy place to hang out going forward. they also just tore through the patch on the roof he did. same deal, paid the guy to come back.

you can see where this is going..

so then he said, F it, ill deal with it myself.

he started off baiting them into cages, taking them 30kms away and letting them out. eventually he got tired of it and just started killing them...drowning them in the pool, compound bow got a work out..i think he said he dealt with about 9 more before it was finally over.
 
Not a huge fan of motorhomes myself, we have rented them before and the biggest problem I found was that you need to tow a car behind you otherwise you’re taking the entire outfit with you when you need to leave the campground temporarily to get some groceries, firewood, whatever.

it’s also a completely separate vehicle so far his insurance, license plate, etc.
 
I traded a 35ft cedar creek 5TH wheel,, and a 1ton Dodge dually and a 30ft class C for the class A, that's the only way i would do the deal cause i didn't want to have to get stuck selling them off piece by piece

I know what you mean, it's a beautiful bus but it limits your places you can go. my wife has talked about trading it this summer for a B+ if the prices aren't jammed to high.

honestly i think we bought on emotions when we seen it
 
What else is there to see and do on 299, is there an entrance and exit you would suggest?
