Where to go in Ontario?

Hey all,

My yearly trip to the Gap was cancelled last year because of the 'Rona. I'm assuming the border is staying closed or the crossing will require some type of quarintine which will make a vacation a waste.

I remember some of the roads around Calabogie to be decent but I can't really remember. I'm looking for some ideas for roads, do we have ANYTHING remotely close to the Gap? Or Cherahola? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM if you're worried about baiting out your spot.

if you get up north you can always run hwy 129. Google it. i think you'll be impressed

Calabogie and lots of county roads to the south of that are great Canadian Shield riding, like around Parham, it's the land of lakes area (1000 lakes in 1000 square miles) so the roads have plenty of turns, decent elevation changes, but it's no Appalachian Mountain range that's for sure.
Avoid bug season.

Get them to send you their map package. Lots to see and do. Great routes.

Lots of good roads in the muskokas.

Since no one's willing to tell you the truth I will. NO. No we definitely do not have anything like those roads here. I've been south and ridden that area. You just can't find that here. Ontario has good roads but not great roads.
Down there it's one great road followed by another. Here you have to connect good roads with OK roads.
 
129 is a good road but it's not a Great road.

I've found plenty of the roads mentioned above enjoyable to ride. You won't be carving because we just don't have that kind of geography. If you want to carve in Ontario, I think you have to go to the track otherwise you have to concede to just OK.

FWIW, I have found those northerly routes to still have a bit of sand on them until May. Just keep an eye out.

Ontario is limited. But if you follow the Niagara Escarpment and the roads that follow or intersect it, you will find good roads and sights.
 
It's true that Ontario doesn’t have much to offer in regards to great riding areas.
The northern parts can be quite pleasant.
Most of southern Ontario is laid out like a checkerboard.
The closest to finding anything twisty is a roundabout lol.
What I like to do is add a destination to the mix to help make it worth your while.
One of the nicest rides is along to Niagara Pkwy from Fort Erie to Niagara On The Lake.
Once you have reached NOTL head on over to Avondale for some ice cream or over to MJ’s for some poutine.
If you do this in the opposite direction (NOTL to Fort Erie) then head to Dunnville and the Country Chip Wagon for some lunch.
Other notable places would include…
Stratford and a ride-along Lakeside Dr with a stop at the Chip Wagon out at the Canadian Tire.
Downtown Ingersoll…chip wagon
Paris…Chip Wagon
Dorchester…Frozen Cow Ice Cream
Millbank…Anna Mae’s
St Jacobs…Farmers Market
Conn…Misty Meadows Market
Cambellville…Ice House
Milton…Springridge Farm.
Sarnia…Suzy / Original Alberts Chip Wagon
Tobermory…The Fish and Chip Place
Plattsville…Trails Edge Tavern
Drumbo…Drumbo Pub (good burgers)
This is just to name a few.
Me thinks maybe this should be a sticky of great places in Ontario to stop and eat.
Maybe start a new thread called “Food Porn” lol
I’m sure others have great places to stop at.
