What did you do in your garage today..?

Finished cleaning out the inside of the tent trailer. Just have to vacuum out the front hatch, and then deliver it to the new owner.
Then we can start cleaning out some more crap from the garage.

Take the pipes off, cut them clean apart and weld in a new crossover. Probably a good idea to get it done at a muffler shop if you can. I welded the pipes on my CM250c after a hole blew out around the manifold. Then I wrapped them with fibreglass header wrap. I was going to buy replacement pipes, but they're $550 on eBay plus $150 shipping. For a bike worth about $1000 it wasn't worth it. Sold the bike this spring.

The crossover is important for reducing back pressure. The CM250 fires alternately so each cylinder exhausts through two mufflers instead of one. Remove the crossover and you'll really kill performance.
Thanks Roadghost. I stopped at the local Speedy's who I've been dealing with since they rebuilt the whole exhaust on my '64 Rambler and they're going to do exactly that next Monday. The guy for that job is on vacation, so I have to wait.

Not as complex as some of the work here, but got the new air filter in and installed the quick connect for the trickle charger.

Used my electric hoist to swap motors off the bench. Way easy on the back. Also finished my lighthouse model for the pond. Based on the Westpoint light out East. HPIM0814.jpgHPIM0813.jpg

IIRC, there was a certain date at which it got very difficult to blue-plate a bike that wasn't street-legal from the factory. If you happened to switch from green to blue before that date, you're golden, but right now, it's next to impossible.

Sounds like the previous owner did the paperwork, which is invaluable.
I just lost a bet on this, cost me an expensive lunch.

Turns out if you purchase a new dirtbike and do the first registration yourself - not done by the dealership -- you can get a blue plate. A colleague just picked up a new KTM 300 TPI Erzbergrodeo. He slapped on a lights and a plate holder and he was done. He picked up the bike from the dealer Friday morning, took the NVIS forms to Service Ontario, registered it as a blue plate and rode it in to the office in the afternoon.

Got me thinking... would be kinda nice to have a 2021 street legal 2 stroke in the garage.

A little more shady doings required than just that but basically yes.

Seemed pretty easy, didn’t have to show pics... just did it.

Today I started sorting out the little 125. Lapped the valves, found out a accidentally put 2 head gaskets on when I rebuilt it (hazard of having a beer fridge in the garage). Probably the cause of my compression problem, the valves were fine but I did them anyway.

didn’t have a small lapping tool, couldn’t find one for curb side so I had to use a drill to lapp, haven’t lapped valves like that since high school.

hope to reassemble and fire tomorrow.

The only special thing I know he did was visit a certain Service Ontario that wasn’t close to home, but knowledgeable in the process.

he also mentioned if you change to green plate you can never go back. Funny thing is his insurance is only $400 on the new bike, insurance doesn’t seem to care if it’s blue or green, the just look at the model.

I always use the drill now for lapping. Why wouldn't you? (must be a reason for the goofy suction cup stick)

I wanted to mention this but wasn't sure it was before or after the change in policy - there was a dealer selling a brand new CRF450 and offering to blue plate it. You just had to pay for the additional safety items to be added. But to do it yourself, how did he get the bike without doing the paperwork first?

Are you using a cup or chucking the stem into the drill? If option B, it's easy to get some strange loading through the stem. Suction cup in drill or rubber hose between drill and stem mostly removes the moments and side loading.

I really hope it’s that simple. I’d also love to have a street legal 2 stroke and with the cost of bikes on the used market buying new seems like a good idea.

Just a word of advice: your post may have had some useful information in it, but when you insert porn into your message, that's the only thing people (like me) see.
