Undetectable Radar Detectors

Some are undetectable and it it a personal choice if it is worth it.

It doesn't work if the cop has an undetectable radar detector detector

This is a motorcycle forum ... None of them are undetectable when the contraption that does the radar-detecting has to be line-of-sight to the radar unit (therefore, mounted in a location where it can be seen) and the contraption that blinks flashing lights and alarms has to be visible to you (therefore, visible to others)!

They can all be detected if the officer switches on the radar unit and notices whose brake lights come on half a second later.

None of them will do any good against LIDAR (laser). Yes, the detector can detect LIDAR (if it is mounted line-of-sight ... i.e. visible!). When it detects the laser, your goose is cooked - it means the officer just aimed the LIDAR unit straight at you. YES, supposedly you can use "blinders" ... more visible-from-outside stuff that has to be mounted line-of-sight to the LIDAR unit.

They will not do a lick of good against airborne surveillance, which could be used anywhere that they have the pavement markings.

Nor will they do any good against people phoning in complaints about someone being an idiot on the road. Everyone has cell phones with cameras these days. Remember that. You're not the only one capable of taking video.

If you want to not get tickets, it's better to keep your situational awareness switched on and not do things that make you stick out like a sore thumb. Never be the fastest vehicle in sight. No weaving through traffic. No lane splitting. No following too closely. If you want to do something a little, ahem, out of bounds, do it where no one is looking and make sure no one is looking. And don't post video evidence of your transgressions on the internet ...

I think what Brian is trying to say is get a flip plate and run.

I agree with Brian's suggestion to run from police.

Haha ... I'm just pointing out that a radar detector is not a police detector, so don't be misled into thinking it makes you invincible. I've found the best ticket-avoidance method has been to not attract attention to oneself. Quiet muffler, properly-mounted license plate, lights and signals and mirrors all there and operational, don't be the fastest thing in sight in traffic and don't be an idiot ...

Also a nondescript motorcycle and riding gear will go a long way in preventing you from being remembered by the cops in the area.... Says the guy who rode a bike painted yellow stinger camo for a couple of years

I'm just wondering if it's worth the $650+? Also wondering in they are really undetectable?

Better off going to www.Radardetector.net and asking about this. The Beltronics STi Driver has been completely undetectable for years. OPP used to have something called a SPECTRE radar detector detector (RDD) that picked up emissions from the local oscillator in radar detectors. Police used to confiscate piles of them in Ontario until the STi, which no longer has emissions, came along. Beltronics, a Canadian company, was bought by Escort in the United States and they used the patented STi technology to make other similar undetectable RDs like the Escort Redline. The Napanee OPP used to brag about how many detectable RDs they seized. Here's their "Wall of Shame":

Do they work? YES. Are they completely 100% undetectable? YES. You can plug them into an earphone on a bike and it will alert you to radar. BUT...there's a lot of radar falses out there, not limited to such things as lane-change radar for stupid people who can't drive, lane-spacing radar on trucks, etc. OPP use K-band instant-on radar also, so if you're the only vehicle on the road and the STi goes off, you're probably caught and there's no way out of it. Savvy police officers are also careful about how they use the radar to try and catch RD users (there are a lot of RDs since the advent of true stealth) including shooting at the back of vehicles to see if the brake lights come on, and waiting for a few minutes between zaps so that RD owners won't know they're there. Read up on RDs before you use one.

I used an STi years ago and it saved me plenty of times. I no longer use one because I don't drive fast anymore and I got tired of the aggravation of the falses when lane-change radar on Acuras, Mercedes, etc. came out. Lidar is rarely in an issue in Ontario because it is a pain for police to use. You can get excellent laser jammers though, if you're a die-hard speeder. In truth though it is easier to just slow down.

Why spend $650 when running is free?

I used to have one that ironically looked like a police car. They work but as someone else said give a lot of false positives.

Just don't ride like a twat. Take it to the track or go up north with a few buddies and do a sweeper run (which you should anyway for gravel and ****) before going full retard.

If you decide to run for it (and I hope you don't) remember that the cop will be chasing you from behind.
Oddly enough where your plate is located.
After the cop has your plate, he will back off.
AH HA you say, I out ran the cops.
Until you get home with a police car out front and a tow truck to impound your bike.
If you had just pulled over you might have talked the cop down to a point where you wouldn't lose points.

I don't condone running... But, do you know how close you'd need to be to read the plate?

You write as if you know better than everyone else but what you wrote is nonsense.

I have a pineapple covered in tin foil which, I have been told, will act as a radar detector. No tickets so it must work. Much cheaper than $650 and can be used as a healthy snack.

i have a gaydar detector that goes off everytime i ride by an aprilia

Derp. That's why you run before the cop has a chance to even see your plate or put the cherries on. I believe its what they call 'road awareness' in drivers ed classes. The trick is to be proactive in your police evasion.
