Me personally….death penalty.

For someone to drink and drive…it is a conscious decision to get behind the wheel and drink…or to drink when you drive to the party.

Death penalty. Life in prison with no parole. Any of the above.

The justice system is a joke. There needs to be a heavy reform of the system.

'Very tragic case... :-(
The net of sadness\trauma these events cast is wide.
It's not just the family involved, but everyone associated with the loss... Not only the family, friends, school mates of the kids for sure, but even the emergency response folks. Fire, Police, Paramedics and even the guys driving the tow trucks are all exposed to the tragedy.

The only thing that might mitigate my feelings towards the offender would be if it is determined he's retarded.

We all make countless decisions every day, some bad but of little consequence.

Having a bit too much to drink isn’t of great consequence by itself but it compromises the ability to assess the next decision.

Decisions are made one at a time but must must key into the next ones. In this case the first mishap was the driver losing control of his judgement of how he plans his next move.

How do we stop that?

Executing a drunk drive killer keeps them from reoffending but has little to no effect on future drivers because they have passed the point of making good decisions.

In reality the death penalty could make things worse as the driver’s logic might cause them to do a nothing to lose runner and have a secondary crash.

How do we insert ourselves into that key point where the first bad call is made?

Be careful what you wish for. Easy for government to mandate in-vehicle breath testers for every vehicle. Drives up costs, complicates repairs and generates additional repairs. May save a few crashes at a cost of billions. Dirtbags will find a way to bypass system. Non-dui drivers will pay the vast majority of the costs.
 
If a speeding vehicular hits a stationary vehicle of the same size there’s something about the physics that says the stationary vehicle gets the worst of it.

A news clip showed the dui driver standing and being put in a squad car apparently in injured. The drunk walks away.

True. A chick a few years ago basically got a friend to blow into the DUI limiter. Then she drove off and killed someone.

For starters we need to know more details about this crash. Where was the guy coming from or going to? Was he at a party or a bar or home? Was there someone there that should have put a stop to him driving? Why didn't they?

The OPP says DUI Charges were 11,142 for 2023. Toronto has its own tally of 283 for 2022. The OPP numbers seem high but even if reduced, the numbers are crazy high.

With thousands of cases is there a Spanish inquisition into every step of the ticketing procedure to try to find the commonality?

Blowing for someone else is considered "tampering with an interlock device" and has a charge all its own.

Remember that driving with weed onboard is also impaired driving. Given that I smell weed smoke coming from other vehicles literally every time I have to drive in to work on-site, I'm surprised the numbers aren't higher.

You don't find the part about the guy who got the DUI (Rammer) and the occupants of the other vehicle (Ramees) were "familiar with (knew) each other" odd? There's something off about the whole thing.
