before i start, i tried doing a search and not sure what's right for ME

pls chime in if you have reliable info

my first bike, dual sport yamaha xt250
has never started on its own since i bought it, got a friend to jump the batt with his car (engine off).. maybe a month later i had to push start the bike.. and now another month later the battery seems to be dead, i tried to push start but when i pull on the brake the dash lights turn off and reset. i've never started the bike between these stated occasions.

so without having to ask a friend to jump start my batt, what should i buy to start/maintain my batt?

canadian tire has sales on until tomorrow and not sure if these are overkill for my bike or what

I got a motomaster that works for cars / bikes / boats and any small automobile cost me 50 bucks and works like a charm .. from C-tire

Get a battery tender. It will be the last charger you buy. The motomaster stuff just doesn't cut it.

(sound like your battery is toast)

OPTIMATE battery charger by Tecmate

wont burn up your batteries....CT products are old tec....

available at Rider's Choice......step into 2012

Just spend the money to get a charger at full price. $60 is a worth while investment since it will keep your $100 battery usable for many years. If Canadian Tire puts the item on sale, you can always get the difference back.

Although it's a good idea to get a tender (I have a C-Tek) it also sounds like your battery is completely shot, so you'll need a new one as well. I'd also worry that attempting to charge a 'dead/destroyed' battery could cause gas, swell/leak, explode, etc (however I think most smart chargers like the C-Tek would abort charging the battery).

i've read that smart chargers might not charge my battery if its completely dead, i was going to buy a charger just to try it out

i dont quite understand how a relatively new battery can die so fast

You said XT250?
What's wrong with the starter button down by the right footpeg?

How do you know is relatively new? A battery life can go from 3 to 5 years on cars, bikes maybe more if cared well.
You started the bike the first time with your friends car, did you let it charge for a while 1hour at least? with the ups and downs of Temperature that battery needs to be getting power in at least 1once a week.

Maybe the charger will do the trick after a few charges and runs on the bike.

my bike is a 2009 with approx 1300 km on it

first time i started it with my friend's car i DIDNT let it charge that long, i'll try it if i get the chance again otherwise will the ctek charger do the job? im shopping around right now hoping to get one for a good price (<-- unemployed)

Do you have a alaram or higher watt bulbs or any other accessories? If it's a new battery than either too much draw on it such that it doesn't charge or you'd charging system may need replacement

no alarm or any third party upgrades.. completely stock

im a noob so i thought getting a ctek charger would do the job but reviews say if the battery is too flat it wont do a thing

do i need to jump start then use a tender?

do i have to buy a big charger from canadian tire? cant afford to spend 70-80$ if not necessary

where are you located?
Cuz maybe I can drop by with mine for a while and see if that helps you charge it.. start it and run for a bit.. A real full charge will take about 8hours to a day... but hey just trying to help

Edit: just keep in mind you will need one before September anyways... so you will be spending the money at some point.
