You have to go through with the ha$$le of getting the records expunged, but even then I think the US border guards may still have access to the information.
They do. His girlfriend at the time was also with us. She was 18 and had been charged with shoplifting, 3 years before. She was ultimately found not guilty, however, they still had records of a juvenile charge in their system.

(Another reason why guys in their 30s shouldn't date teenagers. Just one of many.)

I thought they asked "Have you ever been charged with..." Not convicted.

That one got me. I was charged, but the crown withdrew them (after a small donation to Salvation Army). When I explain this to the border guard, he had no clue what I was talking about.

More giant failures by judges. Intentionally avoiding jail for sexual assault with aggravating factors so the newcomer is able to sponsor their family to come. How did judges get so far from reality? F that guy. Send him home. If his bad behviour hurts his family, they can beat him there.

This is crazy. More sloppy shooting. Firing at suspect while running and looks like coming within 6-12 inches of his partners head.

Sorry GG but you are delusional if you think being Canadian means anything anymore or that traditional Canadian values mean anything. Jean Cretien proclaimed we are post national, basically mutts. The welcome mat has been rolled out for Sharia law, the Caste system, sexism, mob rule in the name of their god-of-choice. Defending veterans that died or were injured in defending democracy is for war mongers. As bone spur Trump said, "They're losers."

IT IS A FACT that if a person commits a crime their family is also punished. Legal fees, loss of income, embarrassment for everyone (your dad is a jailbird), kin have to declare the connection for certain job clearances (I know a lady that lost her government job because her brother did drugs.) registered sex offender status (You can't just move to a new address; you have to register there too) all except if you pull the race card.

In 2015, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, while defining Canadian values, suggested his country could be considered the world's first post-national state. Writing in Macleans in 2018, Scott Gilmore felt like Canada moved past the national stage when talking about post nationalism.

I understand the justification for bail before conviction. What is the reasoning for bail after conviction and before sentencing?

Convicted sex offender bolted before being sentenced to seven years. In no world would the pre-sentencing detention have exceeded the sentence imposed by the judge.

The intent is to get your life in order, before going away. In reality this sort of thing isn't rare.

Once you are a convicted sex offender, I don't care if you are inconvenienced by lack of time to get you life in order. If you think conviction is probable, get ready before the verdict is read. What an epic waste of resources and risk to the public to pander to a sex offender.

In this context, the law doesn't differentiate between crimes. He would have been assessed for risk of flight and, presumably, found to be at minimal risk for it. His surety is responsible for him and any bail is supposed to be forfeit, as a result of his flight. At least that's the theory. In practice it seems to be far too often waived, as too much of a burden on the surety. To me, that's the issue in cases like this.

If you mortgage your house to bail out a friend and the friend skips, you choose poor friends. Education is expensive.

And if the stated penalty can't expect to be imposed, then the surety has no pressing reason to act appropriately.

Stage 1) The crime is committed

Stage 2) The perp is identified

Stage 3) The perp is caught, often (Usually it seems) released on remand

Stage 4) Trial and conviction

Stage 5) Sentencing

A) If the perp had any intention of straightening out their life and getting things in order they could have done it many times between stage 1 and stage 5. 2018 to 2025 is a lot of time to get things in order.

B) Since the sentence usually reduced by time served, the perp would be out on parole far sooner if they plead guilty and took it on the nose right away. By getting out on parole earlier they have more of their useful life left to work towards being a productive member of society.

Instead. this pervert went from being a 25-year-old criminal facing seven years to being a 32-year-old criminal facing seven or more years.

IMO Not a hint of remorse.
