PSA needs to change. Adjudicate psa charges asap and discipline if applicable. Given the circumstances and list of charges, there is probably enough evidence to fire them within months instead of years on payroll and then a return to drunken service as a non-custodial sentence was imposed as nobody got hurt.
Hell, failure to provide a breath sample on it's own should be enough for termination. If you consciously choose to break the law, you are unfit to enforce it and should be immediately terminated with cause.

Having trouble figuring out Blackvue's latest spamtastic app for my car's cameras so I don't currently have the video, but on my way home there were two separate events involving law enforcement. The first was a TPS vehicle turning right from Church, southbound, to Gould, westbound. Gould is a one-way street now and that's not the right way.
The second was a parking enforcement officer turning from the left lane of Church, southbound, to Dundas, westbound. Yup, right turn from the left lane.

Just setup a camera on a tripod at Bay and Richmond SE corner. You'll catch a clown show every 15 minutes.
OK, here's the first video at least. The camera saw the cop before I did, because it's 3 feet further forward. They were probably on a call but going the wrong way down a 1 way, that's more narrow than usual due to construction, seems pretty damned dangerous to me. Gould is permanently blocked past Bond and doesn't open up again until O'Keefe lane, so anyone coming up on the cop would have to reverse down Bond.
I understand they need some leeway to do their job but when you are actively violating HTA you should have to have flashing lights on as a minimum to give people a chance to avoid you (and iirc lights may trigger recording devices in the vehicle).
Overall a decent interaction but interesting to see the revised DUI law in action. Someone reported a vehicle swerving on the highway so OPP called Barrie police who went to the home address and demanded a breathalyzer. Driver blew zero and cops left. What if he had a drink when he got home and was stone sober when driving?

What if he had a drink when he got home and was stone sober when driving?

I don't believe that part of the law has been tested in court yet.. and I doubt it will hold when it is... especially in a situation like that kid's.
If someone witnessed the driver leave the vehicle, never lost sight of them until the cops showed up and performed the breathalyzer test... May be.. but I still doubt it.

They guy that reported his driving.. has since reached out to the kid to apologize.
As with everything, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Likely an over reaction by the cops and they knew courts would give them an epic smackdown on the record for mowing him down. With no charges, you have the same civil suit but the victim doesnt have a statement from a judge that the police screwed up.
Supreme court ruled. Random breath tests on private property are no bueno. CCLA says that in this case though, it would be allowed because it's not random, it was based on a driving complaint. That seems weak to me as that is easy enough to fabricate if you want to do a random test (cop calls an anonymous complaint and then goes and forces test).

That was pretty much by the book. Unfortunate, but I don't think the police did anything wrong.....provided the report is truthful and accurate.
Wow. In Canada, that would never have been released. There wouldn't even be a description of what happened for a year. Not a bad job by the cops. Some slight hiccups in clearing but that's to be expected when you throw three random cops together with no practice as a team. They moved quickly and did the best they could in the situation.

That'll sure raise your heart rate. I would be so scared of friendly fire in a situation like this. Police need to wear some sort of Neon green arm band or similar walking into a situation like that.
Seemed like the killer was standing there waiting to die. Why weren't they running around into classrooms shooting more, or firing down through the window on police as they walked in the building.... Glad it ended as quick as it did.

Arm band is complicated unless it is a game day decision on color. Easy enough for shooter to get a band if it is always the same.
Training is so important (and sorely inadequate by most police departments). Don't pull the trigger until you have confirmed your target. Like with driving, training under stress is so important as it is a different world than shooting at a static paper target.

I talked to an Ontario cop that hasn't been on the streets in a long time and has never pulled his gun on the cop (other than yearly tests). Their policy is everyone responds to a school shooting. Ideally you go in in pairs but if there is no one there to back you up, you go in alone. Get to the shooter as fast as possible and engage them to keep them from shooting at kids.
