If joists run in the direction of the 5.88” wall, you could do a simple bump out up to 24” using cantilevered joists. That would give you a big vanity and conventional clearances.
 
If it was me I’d ditch the tub in Mikes suggestion, keep that layout and put a big walk in shower there with glass doors and keep the window and sill (upgraded sill and waterproofed) to store items on. Floor to ceiling glass doors would make the place look way bigger, more modern and still let the light shine through.

I’m not that big on tubs though and prefer showers so that’s just me.

I agree with getting rid of tub. But we still have fairly young kids and a tub comes in handy. Mind you it’s not like the cottage is being used year round every weekend.

@Mad Mike that’s a hell of a plan thank you. Never considered rotating the tub 90deg. That seems to really open up the space.

I like to keep at least one conventional bathroom with tub in every house - tubs are useful at times. You can do a shortie (accessible tub) or use full size glass doors for modern look, although no doors will make it look bigger).

I don’t like full height doors, shower gets really foggy unless it has its own exhsust. Also, showers with full doors or steam doors get mildew unless you leave them open after use.

I stole it from my Timmins place! My bathroom is almost exactly the same size, I just finished it.

There’s a window there though. Even if there’s no extraction fan you can crack that open during or after the shower. Plus it’s kind of nice to have a shower with a window open.

Wouldn’t need to be full height doors to be honest but those might be easier to fit.

Tubs are useful for filling 5 gallon buckets but the occasional soak in Epsom salts is welcome for sure.

I should have changed the floor tiles, but when I bought the place the bathroom was trashed, and I needed it for myself. I’ll redo the floors when I redo the kitchen.

This place is 26x30 2br with a 10x22 leanto addition. Probably similar size to your cottage.

If I’m in town I can help with the plumbing - save you a couple of days. Most DiYs mess that part up badly.
 
I was never a fan of windows in a bathtub area, they seem to always leak inside the wall no matter how hard someone tries to keep them sealed .
Europe has some wonderful products to make small baths nicer but they done have much market share here and are often really expensive. Here we go out or up or move a wall , they don’t have those options in many cities over there .
I’ve not used a bathtub in twenty yr ( I’m a shower guy ) and my wife could not live without one .

Blue skin the inside window frame and use pvc trim. Same chance of leaks as tiles.
