Rona has 3x4 ft x 3/4” thick rubber pads for $34. Might be worth getting a few. They weigh 48 lbs a mat so a bit more manageable than the ones from the local bridle shop which are 100lbs a mat and 8x6.

Paint or stain? I try to avoid anything that might peel.
Anyone have comments on which is better. IMO spraying on a stain is easier. If paint starts to peel it's a thankless job to get it right.
Kevin decided to paint them purple for some idiotic reason...so I'll have to paint over them as I don't plan on sanding / pressure washing the paint off of 300ft of fence.
I tried one or two pieces and it was a frustration of epic proportions. Too close and you get chipping and splitting of the wood. Too far and nothing comes off. Need to be JUST right for it to work. Will try again once it warms up, but for the time being...purple fence it is.
I could not live with a purple fence .
Stain vs paint ? Stain is always easier to maintain and always use a semi transparent if the look works for you . Solid stain is just weak paint and it always peels on horizontal surface and occasionally vertical .

Any thoughts re 4 X 4 post vs 5 X 5
A 10 foot PT 4X4 is about $20 and a PT 5X5 is about $35.
The advantages of 5X5 is the extra 65% of wood should make the post more resistant to twisting or warping. T/F?
The post will be cut from a bigger tree which sounds like a plus.
It has IMO a sturdier look.
For a 50 foot fence the cost difference is about $300.
Cedar prices are obscene. (Unless you can find out what Hydro does with the tops of the ones they pull out. The lower parts are armored with staples.

I’ve never heard of a 5x5 post. Only 4x4 and 6x6 so that’s interesting to me.
Here’s my fence currently. Purple was on a few spots for some reason but those were already taken down.
I obviously had low voltage Kevin in here before. He needs a throat punch. Wrangled the wires into the 1" cable and tested. Complete chaos at the other end. Wtf. Pulled jack and it was wired br/brw/g/gw/bl/blw/o/ow. 3" back was a flying splice with wires twisted together. Wtf again. Cut out that nonsense. Still chaotic signal. Must be another splice somewhere in a wall with wires randomly connected.
Death of four x four and larger is whipper snipper damage , trim too close too often and you expose non treated wood at ground level where the rot gets going . Five x five are better but they all can twist or warp given the chance .

Seen that many times. Complain about post prices while you/they slowly cut their own down.
