Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I would recommend using some rubber flooring (horse stall mats from Co-Op or others work well) instead of the foam mats. Foam just doesn't hold up well and it's not as nice to walk on while exercising (it's always a bit squishy and just meh).

Rona has 3x4 ft x 3/4” thick rubber pads for $34. Might be worth getting a few. They weigh 48 lbs a mat so a bit more manageable than the ones from the local bridle shop which are 100lbs a mat and 8x6.

Now that I think of it…I should probably paint it all now while it’s up and then replace the posts. Easier than painting and keeping the new posts looking fresh.
Paint or stain? I try to avoid anything that might peel.

Anyone have comments on which is better. IMO spraying on a stain is easier. If paint starts to peel it's a thankless job to get it right.

Kevin decided to paint them purple for some idiotic reason...so I'll have to paint over them as I don't plan on sanding / pressure washing the paint off of 300ft of fence.

I tried one or two pieces and it was a frustration of epic proportions. Too close and you get chipping and splitting of the wood. Too far and nothing comes off. Need to be JUST right for it to work. Will try again once it warms up, but for the time being...purple fence it is.

I could not live with a purple fence .
Stain vs paint ? Stain is always easier to maintain and always use a semi transparent if the look works for you . Solid stain is just weak paint and it always peels on horizontal surface and occasionally vertical .

Any thoughts re 4 X 4 post vs 5 X 5

A 10 foot PT 4X4 is about $20 and a PT 5X5 is about $35.

The advantages of 5X5 is the extra 65% of wood should make the post more resistant to twisting or warping. T/F?

The post will be cut from a bigger tree which sounds like a plus.

It has IMO a sturdier look.

For a 50 foot fence the cost difference is about $300.

Cedar prices are obscene. (Unless you can find out what Hydro does with the tops of the ones they pull out. The lower parts are armored with staples.

I’ve never heard of a 5x5 post. Only 4x4 and 6x6 so that’s interesting to me.

Here’s my fence currently. Purple was on a few spots for some reason but those were already taken down.

I don't own of those flying jacks but if I ever had one in my tool box, I would do everthing possible not to use it.
It would just be there for "just in case".

Same goes for the tool-less jacks. They are a little more acceptable but I just dont like working with them.
I can probably punch down 2-3 reguylar keystones in the time it would take to do up the tool-less jack.
I obviously had low voltage Kevin in here before. He needs a throat punch. Wrangled the wires into the 1" cable and tested. Complete chaos at the other end. Wtf. Pulled jack and it was wired br/brw/g/gw/bl/blw/o/ow. 3" back was a flying splice with wires twisted together. Wtf again. Cut out that nonsense. Still chaotic signal. Must be another splice somewhere in a wall with wires randomly connected.

Double throat punch and a kick to the nuts.

Hopefully non of the wires are shorted out.

Death of four x four and larger is whipper snipper damage , trim too close too often and you expose non treated wood at ground level where the rot gets going . Five x five are better but they all can twist or warp given the chance .

Seen that many times. Complain about post prices while you/they slowly cut their own down.

Damn never knew that! Thought that only did cosmetic damage.

I’ve hit plenty with the whipper snapper myself unfortunately.

Will def be more careful moving forward.

Nail a foot or so of sacrificial 1X6 to the faces??

Ok...wife is coming around to the idea of the above ground pool so progress is...slow. But it's moving forward.

Initial plan...I have 38ft of space b/w the fence and the Kevin concrete pad. I can fit both the 14ft pool, and 12ft trampoline side by side.

With a fence around the pool (in the corner), that would require 17-18ft of fence on each side (so approx 40 ft total) and a gate to allow kids access (I didn't forget @Scuba Steve about your fence, just need to be 100% sure).

And this is the area to grade and level out...

Pay attention to setbacks in zoning. Pool may need to be 1m from PL.

I would keep trampoline back a bit and/or make the fence temporarily taller in the area where they are close (2x4x8 posts with lattice zip tied to nice fence?). Trampoline can be used to get over the fence and access the pool or if they are feeling really brave/dumb can be used to attempt to jump from trampoline into water.

The great thing is the pool is fairly easily movable.

Drain water, move pool...done!

As for using the trampoline to access the pool...the drawing isn't to scale so there would be a decent amount of space b/w trampoline and fence...if they can jump that...they deserve to cool off from the ass whooping they'll get.

I think you once did say that you did have some @sshole neighbor(s).
Keep the pool within permit guidlines. I believe you still need to get a permit for an above ground pool.

I friend of mind needed to go over to his neighbors side and move her stacked pile of firewood away from the fense just for the permit to close.
Once the permit/inspection passed, he went back and moved all her wood back against the fence that was dividing them.

There cannot be anything around any of the fences that might make it easier to climp over into the backyard with the pool.

Water is expensive and a 14' pool in a 17' fence doesn't leave much room for circulation of people and/or relocation to meet setbacks. Mississauga wants a 1.5m setback from PL. I don't know what setback is required from the safety fence but I'd want at least 1m to make it easy to get the mower around the pool.
