Anyone here a cyclist?

That's why I parked it inside the building
That doesn't stop them in Barrie. They walk in, grab the bike and walk out. Even if front desk staff see's them, they won't intervene other than yelling and calling the cops. If a security see's them, they try to intervene but a guard at barrie city hall got permanent damage from trying to stop an idiot a couple years ago so I won't be surprised if they are also hands off now.

Luckily Orangeville isn't quite at that level though I now feel the need to purchase additional locks.

I bought a crappy scooter for less than $100 if I want to get somewhere faster than walking. Either bring it with me or won't be too upset if a dirtbag steals it.

I tried to make a single speed "pub bike" that I could lock to a railing and go inside for a pint without worrying about it. As usual.........

Part of me has always wanted to chase a thief attempting to steal a fixie. The first corner should result in a great crash. Hopefully they get hurt.

No one will ever get the chance. Stood back to admire my handiwork when it was finished. First requirement: had to be black on black with black accents. Unfortunately it’s always MOAR! BETTER! with me. Brodie Bikes double butted Prestige frame, Mavic ceramics on Syncros/Shimano DX BMX hub black DB DT Swiss spokes combo, Avid Ultimate Black Ops brakes and levers, Avid Black Ops stem, Pro Taper bars, Flite Evolution Ti rail carbon fiber saddle, OG Shimano DX BMX pedals (rare and $$$$), Thomson seat post. The brakes alone are $1K. No way it’s ever being left anywhere.

That's worth more than my motorbike. Looks fantastic.

I've never felt the desire for radar. If I'm on the road, I have at most the right earbud in. I also normally have a crazy flashing light that makes me very visible from behind even in full sun (similar to a cateye viz 450 but old). That means the vehicles know I'm there (assuming they are watching at all) and I know the vehicles are there (even EV's at speed are easy to hear coming). I don't see what the upside is to radar. Lots of vehicles pass closer than 1m. A flexible spacer rod with a metal tip for durability is much more effective to maintain space than more tech.

I don't own one...but rode with a guy who had one. First thing that's cool, if one person has it, everyone has it lol. I was getting the alerts from his radar on my bike computer.

If you go on any country roads where cars come up at any type of speed, it's super easy to decide to hug the side of the road instead of trying to avoid all the potholes that are near the edge
I'd say that it's somewhat superior to shoulder checks as the car could still be in a blind spot.

I got out on my bike for the first time since covid and it felt good. Bar end mirrors are on the shopping list as I don't trust drivers and I don't have eyes on the back of my head. EV's are also too quiet.
I ride early in the morning so the car lights usually warn me, also you can hear them coming. The electric cars have a quiet eerie whine but their lights are so bright too. I tried the bar end mirror and kept smashing them on side door entrance to the garage and banging into it, so I took it off. I might try the helmet mirror, but will probably figure out a way to poke my own eye out with it.

I like my gravel bike a lot. I like trails on my mountain bike but I do not like/cannot stand ridiculous climbs (to me) to get to said trails or during trails. I get zero joy out of it and I'm too completely wiped to put proper focus into the downhill section. So, I'm looking at EMTBs to help with climbs.

Getting a bit confused with mid power vs full power and all that jazz. Anyone know? I'm not looking for a moped with pedals. I've seen this…

Would that fit the bill? Our local park allows EMTBs but not fully motorized ones.

I would buy a bike that fits within the legal definition of ebike as that opens up the places you can legally ride. That rules out a lot of bikes that look really fun (like surron).

I would be leery about the specific bike you linked. Motor seems to have reliability issues. I'm not sure if you can convert to another bottom bracket motor or if the whole bike is crap if the motor dies. Wheel motors have some downsides but they make it much easier to retrofit with another system (or no system.).

I saw some reviews. One said look at components before the motor though as they all seem to have issues at some point. The components look decent although the model above (the Core 3) has wireless shifting.

The price point seemed very attractive for a full carbon frame bike and it has a 5yr warranty.

More reading.

What I want then is a full power (pedal assist) mountain bike. So the Fazua is out anyway and you were right, there's near universal advice to stick to major manufacturers in case of issues.

Specialized Levo Alloy? American brand unfortunately but there aren't any Canadian made bikes in the all-mountain/all purpose EMTB category. There's a few of these in Gen 3 on sale if I can find the right size.

The new gen 4 is spendy but has a lot of new upgrades to torque/motor and battery. Looks a bit more futureproof.

There aren't many Canadian made mountain bikes to begin with, and the ones that are making them are bespoke (outside of Divinci) and don't make EMTBs (Hugh @ True North, maybe, if you throw enough cash at him. Maybe).

Haven't looked at Opus or Norco yet but those Opus bikes in the link only have 400wh batteries. I'm looking for 600+ and as close to a do-it-all bike as I can get for mountain bike trails, getting to and from the trails and maybe even some commuting. When I go out for a ride it's usually 4-5h so the battery should last that long and the EMTBs with the bigger batteries can do that with serious elevation too.

A full suspension bike as a commuter wouldn't make sense but with an assisted motor it makes it viable. The price of these things gives me sticker shock in a serious way so it's going to be one bike to do it all rather than a selection and all my bikes are never left alone outside if I can help it and this one never would be in this town for sure. It will stay in my office or home when I'm not using it.

Specialized have a 0% apr 12 months option which makes things a bit more manageable too. Some dealers have a 24 month 0% option in store but there's none doing this near me. One local bike store has an older gen Levo on sale for a really good price but it's only with a 500wh battery and it may not be the right size frame. A higher wh battery is more than $1500 on its own.

The other bike that is a true do-it all is the Trek Powerfly with a Bosch motor and a 700wh battery and these are a bit harder to find but at least we have a local Trek dealer where I bought my hardtail from.

The Levo gen 4 has ridiculous torque and the highest wh battery of them all, over 800 wh. It's also the priciest.
