Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

No use speculating on SSBs and making comparisons with Lio batteries. Too different.
If you have a huge range and lots of super chargers then a 10 minute top up makes sense
Not sure if it has changed but most owners still charge at home.

Supercharger is on par to higher than cost of gas. SSB's won't change that. If that is the expected use case, the economics are horrendous and adoption will be too. Charge at home (or work) is almost a necessity for EV math to possibly make sense.

Full self driving into wall

I was entertained that fsd disengaged when the vehicle had rotated 90 degrees. Thanks a #%@^!^%@ing lot. You've crashed me and now throw in the towel. The computer has access to things I don't (like individual wheel brakes) that are useful when things go to hell.

I suspect this is part of tesla denial pattern. They will investigate and confirm fsd was not engaged at the time of the crash. They will leave out that fsd was engaged when you started spinning. When you actually hit something, it was off. Fad is faultless and has a stellar driving record. Do not look behind the curtain.

Anybody know of EVs that would fit 3 kids in the back? 2 boosters + 1 forward facing, which will go into booster mode in a few months anyway.

So basically 3 boosters in the back.

Got me thinking recently about upgrading the Odyssey and while we love the space...the only time we use all of the space is 1x/month or so when the MIL comes with us also to an event.

Three boosters should fit in almost everything.

Three boosters plus three adults is a much harder requirement. Ioniq9 works (pricey but my buddy likes his). I'm not sure how many other BEV's can do that. 3+2 is easy. 3+3 narrows you down to a vehicle or two as most (all?) have front buckets which means you need a third row and three row BEV's are rare.

2+3 is 95% of our need. MIL doesn't go out often with us.

80% of that would be my wife alone going to/from work, the rest would be us together with the kids, and the last 5% would be 6 in the car (to which we can just take 2 cars). All that does is keep me as a DD (and I can always UBER if I really want to drink at that party).

I don't see any reason a bolt EUV doesn't meet those requirements

Been looking at some of them this week. Shocking how much cheaper they are now compared to when I was looking at the Maverick.

I actually think I could do a straight trade for a Bolt EUV...but that's silly to switch up cars again...

Wife needs more trunk space though, we checked before when I was looking and the trunk is super small (even with the deeper shelf) and wouldn't meet her day to day as she can't fit her gear, and the kids into it at the same time since she needs to fold the seats.

Especially when you know the one you are looking to switch to is depreciating so much more quickly.

She wants more room than the EUV or the normal bolt?

The change b/w Bolt EUV and EV is very small. She needs more space and with the kids in, and seats up there's very little there.

I'm thinking of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Neighbour has one and he loves it.

Barf. One of the few car brands I wouldn't own. Tbh, I'm surprised they are still here. I expect them to follow the path of Daewoo and others and give up on north america. If that happens, the resale value drops to almost zero.

Are the cheap Fiskar Oceans still available? Right size for you, EV, Cheap, etc.

For PHEV, check out the Sorento.

I believe the outlander is based on Nissan Rogue platform and it’s decent but, might be a little tight on room.

The petro engine acts as a generator to power the electric motors. Once you lose ev range and go to hybrid mode, the fuel economy isn’t the greatest. Maybe check with your neighbour on that.

We don’t need the same space as you and ended up with the Escape which seems to have better fuel economy when battery range runs out and moves to hybrid mode.

We have a family member with a previous Gen Sorento PHEV and it’s roomy and decent battery range but, not sure about fuel efficiency when switching to hybrid mode.

I'd rather not buy a bankrupt brand...but the Vinfast models are mighty nice...

Pretty good info apparently well researched 🍿
Informative.
Jan 15, 2026 LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER

A revolutionary solid state battery was publicized globally in January of 2026, but not shown in person. If the announcement is true, the world will be dramatically changed. We interviewed the co-founder of Donut Labs, which made the announcement: • Donut Labs and Verge Motorcycles In Depth ... We dug up as much information as we could, including a few bit we haven't seen anywhere else. We found a billionaire and some intellectual property which could explain the amazing properties of this battery. Heck, we even take a guess at a specific battery chemistry and manufacturing method which might fit into all of the requirements and recognizable circumstances. We used SO MANY sources, that they wouldn't fit inside this video description. For that reason, we've made a shortcut to a massive PDF file with a rough version of the script featuring inline hyperlinks, a makeshift whitepaper and tons of other information about our speculated solid state battery design. Here is that PDF:ssb.missgoelecgtric.comThe conclusions are all iffy...but the sources should be helpful to those who are searching for more. Maybe we are all wrong and its some kind of supercapacitor which they've simply advertised wrongly. Maybe it is something different...or...worse yet...nothing at all. Thanks for watching!
