Just a quick blurb to say I survived the Amazon Jungle. Back in Quito now for new years, will provide some more content shortly.

Some things I saw on my last nighttime Jungle Walk.

We were deep into the jungle in Venezuela years ago ( when it was just a little crazy ) . The rainforest is quite incredible.

Beautiful pics, really miss Ecuador. Last time was 2005, heard things are diff with drugs and gangs...How are things in Quito and the country side?

There are a few things I can be quite content only ever seeing in an image. You posted a couple of them.
Those two giant spiders are bad enough, and that highly venomous caterpillar is another thing, and you`re out there wandering around in the dark. If you encounter one of those giant foot long, thick as your thumb, Hayabusa fast, centipedes, you must burn the jungle down. And if you find a nest of Bullet Ants, leave that alone too. Did you never see episodes of Deadly 60 or Kings of Pain?

Quito seems fine from what the locals tell me. As always a few spots tourist need to stay out of.

The coast is a different story. People get shot for witnessing the wrong situation to this day.

Enjoy, cool pics. How many of those things want to kill you?
Not everything I posted, but enough that a trip to the hospital or worse is only 1 bad luck situationsof rubbing against the wrong leaf.

Guide told me the real issue with tarantula is the spikes. They get agitated and will shoot the spikes on their back, they carry some sorta poison that will start to dissolve your skin iirc. The bite is the ‘good’ part.

You are correct, the spikey caterpillars are extremely dangerous.
