The problem with the sunshine list is that it hasn't been adjusted for inflation for 30+ years...
It also doesn't differentiate what % of the money people are earning is a result of overtime.
I've been on that list pretty much every year since 1999 and I dont work a lot of OT...
true.. but if that interested.. you can learn the salary of the position and see the difference between base and the actual... might not be exact, but will be a good estimate.

It should be adjusted down. 100,000/year is >40% higher than the average earnings in Ontario.
Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is spent.
Let's see, back in about 2009 cadets made $55/yr or so. Iirc 1st class constable was about $87

As i recall watching; this investigation began in York, they were investigating themselves. And the trail took them to other jurisdictions.Three Peel officers have been suspended as part of Project South.

True, but I would argue that in most cases at least public sector workers are at least doing a job.
The real waste of tax payers money is in unbridled spending on useless projects that go nowhere.
Everyone thinks everyone else gets paid too much, well... then go do that job you're complaining about people getting too much money for.
I agree with the first half of your argument. I very much oppose the second half. I'd much rather burn down the system than join in the grift. Your solution hastens the flush.

Are they doing a job? Or half a job? Or less if you evaluate a job based on productivity.
Not saying that’s everyone in the public service is lazy, but there is no doubt they are far less productive.
Taxpayers are entitled to know how their dollars are spent.

Anyone's opinion on this is at least partially based on anecdotal evidence or lived experience.
Some jobs cant be measured by "productivity" at all anyway...

When I'm sitting around with my feet up the usual retort is... "Hey, we're not paid for what we do, we're paid for what we may be called upon to do".
Heres a thing though...
There are lots of public service jobs that are under paid and precarious with lousy working conditions.
The public service does its best to avoid giving out full time jobs... there's minions of folks doing nothing better than contract work with no guarantees of steady, longer term employment.

It’s a strong argument to RTO, and an indictment on management ineptitude.
The list goes on… LRT, IRCC, Service Canada call center response times.
In higher education we've been getting budget cuts year after year. We're cutting people. There are always ways to save money but the best one, being able to spend on multi-year contracts to get discounts, isn't possible with the way that funding currently works and at current funding levels.
IMO a nation's wealth is an educated population. When wars were won by chucking spears and throwing rocks a bunch of illiterate goons did the job.
Exporting goods and services isn't much different. You need state of the art goods.
Educating the population is mandatory for a country to survive. The problem with that is educated people also tend to think about how the country is being run. There is a a pseudo Charlie Brown cartoon out there where he says "Don't think they'll ever teach us enough to overthrow them."
There is no better example of how a first world nation is headed downhill than the USA where counties cancel school bus routes to balance budgets while school committees throw lavish banquets. We do the latter and scrimp on school bus routes. Talk to a driver about their crappy wage and benefit issues.
The poor become dumber while the leaders get more entitled to excess. Too many elite climb the ladder expounding ridiculous theories while goober hopes for a rusty pickup truck and a case of beer.
The goobers hear that the USA has collected billions in tariffs failing to recognize the the goobers are the ones paying the tariffs.
Canada is little better. All those errors, police and general stupidity actions resulting in the government being sued. The crowds cheers when the government loses and has to pay out millions. THE TAX PAYER IS THE GOVERNMENT.

Cuts or redistribution? The worker shortages are trades and skilled techs, college stuff.
Higher education has to adapt to funding realities. Sharpening focus on market needs, reworking under enrolled niche programs, running year round instead of 2/3rds of the year.
Centralized purchasing of tools, software, supplies can save as much as 25% + a lot of admin. Admin if payroll, hr, help desks and other business oriented IT systems are mostly done in-house, contracting those to service providers is a huge opportunity for efficiency gains.
Change to competency based progression vs time in seat. Competent learners get thru faster and cheaper. At the same time, change funding to competency and performance vs bums in seats.
More specialization. Many colleges run the same programs as neighbouring schools, many are under enrolled because of this overcapacity.
More use of on the job training (coop). That’s a win-win-win for schools, students and employers.
Cuts. Skilled trades training, via institutions like community colleges, has also seen cuts.

I’ve mentioned this before, about 3 years back an OPP cop pulled over a buddy, claimed 160 in a 100 zone on the 407. Cop was on a Harley, radared him under the bridge on the 404, caught him before Kennedy off ramp.
1) calculus didn’t work, it would have been impossible to catch a car that quickly.
2) he waived off 2 trucks and waited an hour for a third.
3) the tow operator billed $250 for Dollie’s and another $1000 for the tow. He took it to a yard in the west end instead of the nearby Richmond hill yard. Would not disclose fees at the scene, after impound the fee was close to $3k.
The city of Markham said the tow was a major infraction as the operator was not in compliance with Markham bylaws. But too bad because the bylaws are not enforced
The city did file a complaint with the OPP professional services who basically tossed it aside saying those things don’t happen.
About 2 mos later a few OPP officers were charged for doing this. Not the guy that got my buddy.
