Picking up a new 5x8 utility trailer and thinking of going aluminum this time as it's lighter. Will be used to transport a motorcycle once in a while and general house stuff like transporting riding tractor, cleaning up branches and getting mulch. Will be kept inside out of the weather. I could rent one each time I need it but I have the space for one and if you keep it in good condition I'll end up selling it in 15yrs for what I paid for it.
Anyone have any brands/dealers to recommend?

Edit - I also have a covered exterior location out of the elements with a crushed stone base it would be nice to leave the trailer instead of taking up garage space.

Lots of Mennonites around here make them and will sell seconds for a good price. Seconds have a stain or scratches somewhere on the aluminum or similar.

You looking for enclosed or open?

I want an enclosed but can’t justify the price right now so I’m planning on just putting up 24-36” plywood walls on mine and be done with it.

Same use case as you. Basically a runaround trailer.

Open. The majority of my use is cleaning brush from storm damage or picking up a few yards of mulch so enclosed isn't my best option. My buddy has an enclosed set up for bikes that I can borrow if needed on inclement weather days.

That’s why I haven’t bought an enclosed yet. Rarely use the trailer as is, and even rarer need for enclosed.

Wasaga has a 💩 collection schedule for yard waste so need to bring it here to the GTA for easier disposal. Or the dump near Wasaga.

Mine is a 4x8 home built.

If you can weld, you need about $500 in steel and another $1000 for components.

I built mine because I wanted heavy and a few features. I used 3/16 square tube for the main frame (rock solid) and do I could use a 3500lb axle. I used 1/8” plate for the floor instead of wood - way nicer for hauling dirt and easy to clean, plus I could weld on heavy tie downs. I built a 4’ expanded metal ramp and a solid tailgate.

My only regret is not going 5x9. I did a 4x8 to save time and a few bucks on steel

Damn. That’ll be more solid than most store bought!

Mine is the 4x8 folding trailer and it’s great for what it is. Just can’t figure a way to enclose it without it rattling apart over time.

If your buying one for the long term I highly recommend going with aluminum or galvanized. I’ve had two steel trailers I stored outside and used all winter, they both disintegrated after about 12 years.I think one was made by Jensen here in Ontario, it was really well built otherwise.

Not referring to Mad Mike but a lot of amateurs overbuild "to be safe".

I've seen 2X4 tubing, 1/4" wall to haul camping gear.

Harbor Freight used to carry some cheap kits but seems to be phasing things out. Considering rate of exchange and hassle it doesn't seem to be worth the effort.

Yup. I’ve also seen 2x2 and 2x4 lumber as the frame holding 1/2” plywood.

Seems solid….but I worry about vibration rattling it apart.

I’m tempted to sell mine and buy a covered trailer.

I had a little bearco aluminum 5x8. Very well made, I think somewhere near waterloo.. All the corners are sealed top to bottom, no exposed lighting wires. keep an eye on used ones that pop up. Bought for 2700, sold 3 years later for 3k :)
That's the one that I'm leaning to right now as it looks the best made plus has a bit higher sides than others.
