Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

For any parents with kids building snow tunnels please be Extremely careful and monitor that activity. Co worker lost his son when a driveway sno fort tunnel collapsed. The father never recovered mentally either .

I did it one year. Four hardwood skids made the cave and then snow on top. Safe. Burnt the skids in the spring and then used a magnet to pull pounds of nails out of the firepit. Never again. Too much work. Just a pile with no core since.

Another was either injured or smoked when a car slid into the snow fort.

Plows get some kids too. Tha mount of hand-wringing and stupidity by barrie parents continually amazes me. Half of them think plow drivers should hop out and inspect snow pile before plowing in case there are kids. Aside from that being completely infeasible, what happened to parenting and teaching your kids about danger?

I can't reach the top still. Probably should have a railing along the sides. Stairs need some work after the latest snow.

Agreed. My kid was playing in the snow pile in front of the house as the plow got near. I yanked him out of there but the plow operator saw him thankfully.

Ours aren’t allowed at the front of the house without one of us present just for this reason. Way too dangerous.

That's what I'd like to know.
Burnouts, side by side racing etc all went down right outside of school when I went.
And there wasn't any 20/30kph signs near them.
How tf did we survive?
(no cell phones).
I’m trying to convince my wife to let me hook the kids up to the back of the truck and pull them around the neighbourhood like we did as kids….

So far she’s not on board.

We built an igloo dog house for the stray we look after at an our camp up north.

We make snow bricks using one or those Dollarama snow brick makers.

Hobo loves it, keeps him out of the -40 temps snd colder winter winds. Solid as a brick shithouse.

It used to happen when I lived in Manitoba. Kids would build into the windrows along the road and if a grader came around it would cave the thing in. Occasionally we'd see men probing the banks with long sticks. :(

Well looks like we may be looking for a new house :(

We like our house, but it's getting rather tight as the kids get older and need more space. MIL is around, and now with dog.

We have a house in mind, and will need to touch up a few interior deficiencies in our place as well.

Question is where to store all the JUNK / Clutter during showings? I don't have the space so considering the pod route in front of the house.

We're putting in an offer on a house this week, and if that goes we'll be listing in a month or so to hopefully sell for a minimum amount of 1.4M or so...which may be tough in the current market.

We rented a storage unit. Most have first month free with no long term commitment, they hope you just keep paying. You pay per square foot. I found one with tall ceilings so it was cheap per cubic foot. Packed it roughly 10x10x12' tall. I didn't need to access that stuff until new house so I could pack it solid.

After closing dates were known, second winning idea was a container in driveway. It had mostly garage stuff. Allows you to pack and unpack over time so moving day isn't as bad.

You could use a container instead of a storage unit but the cost will climb quickly and I don't trust the cubes to be weather/condensation/rodent resistant over longer periods of time.

EDIT:
I booked pod through costco and saved some money over booking direct.

Good idea thanks! Buddy has a 6x12 trailer which I can probably borrow if he's not using it. That would fit in the driveway nicely and allow for tons of junk to be held in the interim.

We have a small pod in the driveway. Cost is $100 per month plus drop off and take away fees. Stores a surprising amount of crap. Full contents of one room plus a storage closet.

Can they move the pods when they are full? Make it part of the move.

Can you handle the purchase if your doesn’t sell in time?
When we bought a couple of months ago… we looked for sellers that already made purchases.. and used that to negotiate.
