Daily sports car?

I'm surprised no one makes adjustable rear control arms or bushings for your make/model!

At the very least Moog or even Monroe would have options....maybe because it isnt domestic the market is smaller here in NA.
oh they do make them, im not buying them lol

There are no good British cars.

I must have a screw loose, I’ve owned and raced a pile of them. First was an MGB Gt8, then a handful of Minis, 2 Jags,a Range Rover,TR6, and my current project is a 69 Spitfire.

The Spitfire is a project. Frame is good, body ok but I redid floor and trunk. It’s mechanically stock, but I changed the wiring harness at a 12 circuit, redid dash to use modern gauges and radio. Planned to do a driveline swap to GM 3l & 6 speed and diff out of a CTS but that’s too much of a project for a cheapie classic.

There's a guy near me who has 4 MG projects. I'm reasonably convinced that he has half a car and the others supply parts on a regular basis.

A friend of mine had a classic Land Rover that he claimed could be fixed with a single wrench. Which is good, because it needed fixing a lot and he spent more time with his wrench than actually driving the thing.

I'm not that sure why people buy British cars still. There's the odd one out perhaps, my brother has a Jaguar he likes and it seems reliableish. Maybe that's just comparing things to Japanese engineering though and everything is unreliable compared to that, who knows.

Some do look good. I always wanted a Morgan.

Your money has to go somewhere. Like MP's epic thread on bikes with soul (or however he framed it), it is rare that a japanese econo-mobile is not the cheapest per km over the life of the vehicle. Imo, very few of them are fun though. They are soul-sucking reliable transportation. That's not what I want in toy (car or bike). If I was doing something like a round the world trip, I would shift my priorities to reliability and ease of repair at the top.

I wouldn't buy the boring sedan/suv jags. Evo's is cool and sounds great, some of the XJR's are cool (older ones, the newer ones are hideous).

Do we count Ineos Grenadier as a british car? It's a pretty close ripoff of the defenders in their hay day. If I wanted a big dumb SUV, it would be high on my list.

If I bought a sports car practicality wouldn’t be high on the list. It would have to be open top and just look good. When I was a kid those Morgans had a wait list of several years, not sure what they are now. Mind you, they also had wooden running boards too.

I'm more confused about the Land Rover SUV purchasers here in Canada. That's just a status thing. It sure as **** isn't for reliability.

New morgans are six figures (starting at $85K USD). I have no idea about wait list. It doesn't really matter as we can't buy new ones here anyway.

This is the very reason why I am not a collectible car/bike guy.

If I own it, I will use it.

If it's an adv bike, it will see the dirt.
If it's a sportbike, it will see the track.

If the entire point of the vehicle is to keep the miles low so it retains its value on resale, then it's not the right kind of vehicle for me.

Learned that the hard way.

Entirely agree. When I was looking for a toy, I looked at a mint one owner 928 with original paint. It was beautiful. It's not for me though. That can be a garage queen for someone. I'd feel bad getting it covered in stone chips. I want a driver.

Eh, all this talk of British cars, I’m very familiar with them and several owners. They are more of a hobby and they really don’t get much sport driving as much as parading around country roads and looking for ice cream places to stop at.

A friend has a Morris Traveller (Woody) that gets more attention than a club member’s F Type put in public.

They are cheap and relatively easy to maintain. But I’d avoid the use of sport for any of those driving an MGB or similar 2 seater.

I’ll likely have a TR6 in the near future but, even by today’s standards, a 15 yo Yaris would run circles around it.

Here are a few Pics from this past weekend.

I must say that I’m always on the look out for a decent F Type or Lotus Sport Elise version with Toyota power plant and Yamaha design VVT. A modern go kart.

The Lotus I would call a Daily Sport Car but, wouldn’t drive it in the winter. The Jag, I might be tempted to year round it? 🤷‍♂️

On that note, what are the competitors for great sounding two seat GT? Ferrari and aston make them at a vastly higher price point. You could be trash and go with mustang or mopar four-seater (no disrepect for those that have them, they can be cool in their own way but I don't consider them equals). If you swing from GT to sports, that opens up some asian options but again, I don't consider them direct competitors.

I drove this last winter and I'll drive it this winter. It will be for sale next year, I can throw you a message if I remember lol!

Since he's hanging out with the baller crowd, I hope a Daytona. We need more of them driving around.

I dream of magically having money to buy that F-Type.

I quit working at Jag before they came to the lots, but did drive a few of the new XK variants when they showed up ~2003 or 2005 with the new 4.2 V8 and ZF transmissions…

What's next on the list!?
Undecided. A lot of options but I'm going to really try to go lighter & more dynamic. Ideally still want a V8 so that does narrow it down.
