Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

ALWAYS worth the extra cash.
That depends imo. When I was getting prices to re-shingle, the "best" company was more than double the company I went with (I was happy with the company I went with, the two owners were on the tools). They did some things differently (eg scaffolding entire house) but imo, most of the price difference between the top few companies and the rest was a five figure commission to the sales guy. That adds no value to me.

This is the same contractor that's dealing with the inside of the room prior to the spray foam application too so they have intricate knowledge of the structure which we figure is a bonus. Should mean no surprises.

My next project is an overgrown cedar hedge. I could hack it back and hope for it to grow out green of pay an arm and a leg for all new.

The neighbour on the other side will have a bit of input consideration. I'll give him a day or two to think about it now that his new roof is finished.

I suspect I’ll never save enough electricity to justify a fourteen hundred dollar DC fan , but if it’s super quiet as they claim that’s close enough . It’s sixty two inches and will be twelve ft off the floor so living a long happy life up there is my hope . It’s just a fan , no light fixture in it and actual wood blades like an airplane propeller. Not sure how it will ever get dusted .

While probably not as quiet as a DC fan and definitely costs more per hour to run than any other option, this is awesome. Mute the video. Annoying AI voice.

Upgraded DVR for cameras. Old one had another drive die (went through one every couple years) and was always slightly annoying (crap UI, could no longer connect with windows only app worked, all connected cameras must be same resolution, etc).

New one is a dahua from ali. It is similar to the old one but UI is better, functionality is better (accommodates multiple resolutions, accommodates ip cameras and analog cameras, etc) and it includes AI. I thought the AI would be huey (and maybe it is) but so far it has done a great job identifying vehicles and pedestrians and flagging them for easy review.

Right now I'm just using plug-in WYZE cameras at both home and cottage...but next season I'm going to a hard wired camera system on the exterior of the house.

Tons of money spent wiring the exterior but just do not have the damn time to do the work.

CAT6 all around the house, 6 points of connection available.

Anyone selling / getting rid of camera system that would suffice? Don't need anything fancy, just wanna see if someone's milling / checking / stealing car or their contents.

I have some wyze cams too for a different purpose.

The wiring is the hardest part. If you haven't terminated the cables yet, I would do that while the weather is nice. That is a royal pita on a ladder and frozen hands make it exponentially worse. Ali has some camera systems. I don't put cameras where they capture anything that I would be upset if was publicly exposed. If you want to buy local, costco wired systems are not awful. My problem with them is they only have white. I want cameras to disappear, not stand out and look stupid. I don't mind buying new systems as the install is the biggest pain. I want as many years as possible before I need to replace parts. Company can buy the cameras to protect company assets.
