The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

I have another G that is a decade younger and solar powered. Worst comes to worse, I can use that one. Display is smaller on the newer one. It looks like bezels are available for <$20 to replace the disintegrated one too. As I only use this for diving, I'm not sure I'll bother.

If you like the size of the display on the 6600 and would prefer to use it get the bezel. You won't be starting/stopping/changing modes/setting if you look at the exposed pushers wrong.

Dive computers have rendered all that tech to the shelf . I only wear an actual dive watch diving for nostalgia. Last trip to Bahama, the diver master handed out preprogrammed sets and collected them at days end , you were emailed a printout each evening and a weeks final print logging everything. Sandals does do a nice job for tourist diving .

If I had two computers, I would go that way instead. Since I only have one and don't dive that much anymore, one computer and one watch works for me.

EDIT:
Gshock passed pressure test. Dive computer is sadly too big to fit in my chamber (maybe I could get it to work if I built a custom arm for the deflection sensor). I'll have to assume that the old school lubed o-ring is happy.

I was in Scarborough today , stopped at a previously loved watch shop to look specifically at a Squale , black face and bezel at a good price , but then saw a Longines Hydroconquest blue bezel/ blue face at a very good price so it followed me home instead .

Good self-control. Both would have been the easier choice.

Fantastic watch. Simultaneously manages to have classic diver proportions without falling into the Submariner rip-off looks that so many do.

That L888 movement is also one of my favourites. Big power reserve (72 hrs), but at 3.5 Hz splits the difference between the basic Powermatic 80 with its visibly choppy 3 Hz and smoother 4 Hz movements that either offer ~40 hrs power reserve or are expensive and require more servicing. My Conquest is nicely accurate, and has the fancy silicium spring so it's anti-magnetic.

And to echo @85K100 , pics or it didn't happen...

This bit of wackiness is on loan for a test drive , I’m not sure how to actually tell time with it . I was told to not wear it in the hot tub .

I, uh, I mean, um, sure? Assuming it's real, I am constantly amazed that people actually buy those, unlike all the athletes and celebrities who get them for free. I assumed for a long time they were like Invicta, and the MSRP was kind of a joke with a real sales price much lower. Then I saw a few auctions and apparently people actually do spend hundreds of thousands on one. Go figure.

I hope it's just the graininess of the photo and the watch itself is finished better than it appears.

There's no accounting for taste, but my taste says I'd actually wear the Longines, but I wouldn't wear that, regardless of price...

I hate everything about it. Is it real? Is the casting/machining on the flower/star details as bad as it looks in the picture? Where are you supposed to read date? Look through the chaos at 6 o'clock?

Assuming it's real

I would call it a homage as opposed to a clone/replica. The dimensions are off from a real Rafa.

And on a lighter note, Federico @ Delray said in a video on a RM he had in "I'm not saying that only dooshbags wear RMs, but everyone I've met wearing one was a dooshbag." And he is in Miami......

Just got an email from Teddy. Japanese watch prices (Seiko) are going up due to tariffs. Swiss/German watches have already increased. Orange man bad.

Omega jumped about 20% in January . They have a plan to narrow the gap between them and Rolex. I sold my speedmaster 6 mths too soon (story of my life)
Trying to move upmarket while at the same time issuing knockoffs of your most popular timepieces seems like management is on some good drugs.

Prices will be increasing world over to soften increases in US.
Exactly. Prices go up in the US...the rest of the world will see price increases.

Can't have the shareholders seeing lower profits...so if the market shrinks...they'll just crank the prices elsewhere to make up the difference.

I fully expect a massive run up from the US to Canada to snap up expensive goods and ship them down to the US illegally so they can flip for a profit on the black (un-tariffed) market.

Crossing the border with tens of thousands of dollars of undeclared goods is a dangerous game.
