@Hardwrk13 , could you frame the portion of your BBQ island that will be near the Q out of metal studs ? My Boss had one built , it takes a few more cross pieces to suppprt the Q but once all screwed together it’s pretty solid . Back of island was paneled with 4x8 Hardie cement siding . Top was ceramic tile which I didn’t like , but it’s not me house

Now you can head to the pet shop for a few gold fish. Judging by the depth you would need to scoop them out and keep them in an aquarium over winter though. We just get feeder fish for our pond but it's big /deep enough for them to winter.

I'd rent one if I was doing 1 or 2 posts. Not easy digging a 12" diameter x 4' deep hole by hand.

One summer I dug at least 100 holoes by hand for a farm fence. Never again, the pioneer spirit died right there in that field. That Mr Posthole guy is worth whatever he charges. Our farm was on the niagara escarpment , near Campbellville. 100 acres of rock and 11 trees.

I'm pulling out a 100' cedar hedge, along one side of the yard. Trunks are 5-6" caliper, I wonder if they would make good fence posts if I just lftbthem standing?

Never thought of that but I'll look into it. Easy enough to make one out of them but I wonder if they'd be ok with that amount of heat.

Definitely depends on soil type. I hand dug 10 holes 3ft deep for a farm type fence last week took about 30min but it's easy when your soil is mostly sand. Usually I'd view fencing similar to doing drywall; just write the cheque.

Want to use our existing bbq minus the base for a custom outdoor kitchen island but can't find a insulated jacket that fits our bbq. Frame for the island would be constructed of wood so is there an alternative solution to solve this fire hazard? Section under bbq could potentially be made from stacked cinderblock but that's the only idea I've come up with so far.

4" cinderblock is an easy project. Each course is 8", and you can dry stack and fill with sand or mortar if you dont want to mess with grouting. This would be my choice, easy, cheap and durable.

Steel framing is another great option, face both sides inside panels with concrete backer board, the stuff used in bathrooms. Be sure to use a foam base gasket, concrete touching galvanized sheet metal rusts fast outdoors.

I helped a friend pull a tall hedge one time. The corner trees were no joke. We were expecting 6" diameter which we got in the center of the corners were over 12". I was glad I brought the tractor as his original plan of using his lawn tractor would have been a colossal failure.

My cedar hedge was healthy thick, 16' high and 4' thick. Planted in 1970, the trunks at a few inches inside my side of the property line. A few years ago the neighbour shaved off the 2' that had grown into his yard... about 1/2 the trees died.

Kinda passed me off, our yards are 150' wide, the 2' meant nothing. I cut down the trees along the side I can't see. He freaked, as it made his view the dark side of my house where I store my junk.

You could try topiary.

2 Pcs of rebar, let the base of the bbq sit on them.

Even easier... leave the BBQ in its existing base, roll it into a masonry bay.

Be careful using ‘cement board ‘ that is designed for bathrooms around fire . Some brands have foam bubbles in it to reduce wieght and mesh scrim that is also not fire retardant. You could use mega board , but it’s $160 for a 4x8 so a bit silly .
