Looking to buy a small SUV

Looing to replace the current cage. A small SUV fits the needs. Something like the Rav4 Hybrid, Suburu Crosstrek(Hybrid not available in ON) or Carolla Crosss Hybrid(not coming till late 2022). Anyone know someone doing a lease return? Or leads on used ones? Local stealership has a 2019 Rav4 XLE with 52K kms asking over $45k. Bit too rich for my blood. Problem is, ordering a new one means delivery is a year out. Can't wait as need to do a road trip mid July.

My '16 X5 (mid size) will be for sale in a few months, cheaper then that.

If there's any interest drop me a PM and we can talk.

Thanks, but need to buy by beginning...ish of July.

Got a line on a 2018 Buick Encore for just under $16k. Not a model with the best rep, but....

My 2019 Rav4 XLE premium with 30k was $38.

Not the right time to buy a car

I would aim for a hybrid or ev small CUV. Not much fun to drive so might as well get decent fuel economy 🤪

I have not heard good things about the Hybrid Crosstrek. Subaru has not done their work in the hybrid department yet.
Test drove the Corolla Cross. It did the trick but there was nothing special about it.
Cars are out there, just be prepared to pay covid premium and snatch the one you want when it comes up.

Horrible time to need to buy a car right now, new or used. I would look at a rental right now if you MUST have a car for your road trip.

New cars are out of stock, and as a result used cars are through the roof. In the times of communism used cars went for more than new because you could have it NOW.

If you really need to buy, keep scouring Kijiji and AutoTrader daily as cars will get snapped up fast. And negotiation room isn’t there for the most part either.

Try renting a car right now....impossibly expensive.

if you buy something overpriced and pre owned right now....order what you like at the same time. By the time your Corolla Cross Hybrid shows in December/January you will still be able to sell it for a ridiculous price. The shortage is not going to change any time soon. Rav4 hybrid is at least a year plus. If you call a small dealer on the Cross though you can still be first in line. Our dealership only has 4 orders so far.

Wow really? I can’t remember the last time I rented a car so don’t really have a reference.

Cousins were looking for a trip out to BC and said that the big gas guzzlers were around $50/day to rent. This was a few weeks ago.

@Riceburner i didn’t actually answer your question.

As a small CUV/SUV my parents have had good luck with Nissans. Both their last 3 Rogues and their current Qashqai.

Don’t turn my crank but they’ve been very happy with them.

Locally it is $80-90 a day for a 5 seater SUV over a week ($650 plus a week)... rental agencies deal with the same shortages.

You will get a fortune for that

Nissan CUVs are crap stay away!!
My experience is different. My parents have had nothing but Nissans since 1988 for some reason.

Never had a major issue. Always replace it with a newer model.

Mom literally puts 10-15k/year nowadays and We bought her past Rogue. No issues but at 140k it was time to let it go.

Buddy had the newer Rogue with close to 350,000km on it. No major issues but the car is showing wear.

I’m not a huge fan. But I’d buy that Qashqai as a daily.

Friend of mine bought a Crosstek and sold it after a year. I don't have an actual reason why other than to say she hated it.
I'd rent if it's for a roadtrip. Expensive or not it's still mileage I'd rather put on a rental instead of my own car.

Lol I've always said, they are a Japanese version of GM, a bit clueless, and not the greatest quality

Having said that, they seem to be turning a corner ditching their previous frumpy designs, with their newer models and picking up their socks. The latest pathfinder and rogue are far more compelling products

I'd toss Mazda into the mix here. True everybody wants hybrid, but wait lists are long and you will pay a premium for sure

Mazda makes some compelling fuel efficient small suvs that are fun to drive and a good value without the complexity, added weight and cost of a hybrid
