Yes....

Put on a sweater.

We live in "houses".... If that ain't "spoiled" I don't know what is...!

It's not practical for most people.
The only people who can live with relying on public transit are those who live, work and play in urban areas.
And of those... Only those who need carry nothing more than a briefcase/backpack and their $8 latte during their commute.
And of those... Only the ones working 9 to 5 day jobs.

I've never had a job where public transportation was a viable option.

'It's the same with these bicycle freaks who advocate for more and more concessions to make commuting by bicycle more widespread.
This ain't Amsterdam bro.
How many people can actually ride a bike to work on the daily... In the summer, never mind Toronto in February.
Amsterdam weather is cold and wet in the winter. We could adjust except our lattes would get cold. Does Starbucks serve ride thru customers?

The bicycle is great for those who live and work downtown and all their friends live and work downtown. A mutual admiration society. The urban nobility.

Catch 22. The traffic planners don't want grid street layouts because it's too easy for drivers to use them as arteries so they do the cul-de-sacs, crescents and dead end streets. A person could live 200 feet from a bus route and have to walk a half mile to get to a stop. Alternately they cut through someone else's yard climb a fence, dodge the dog crawl through a hedge and then a ditch.

Our society was designed around the car. To get around that we have to fix the car dependency problem first.

When my current lease is up in April, I might take a stab at an e-car.

I saw this car slink out the back lot of a Magna building near my office. Followed it for bit, the driver peeled off to a backroad north of Newmarket.

With Covid and retirement the pay back is way to long to interest me. A really fat subsidy could tempt but I'm against subsidies in general. We probably will spend $100 a month on gas over the winter.

The irony of course is that the cost of producing batteries for such electric cars is pretty horrendous: Apple, Google, Microsoft, Tesla and Dell sued over child-mined cobalt from Africa

Not to mention, the electricity has to come from somewhere also.

Wonder if I made a mistake by NOT taking the Bolt when I had the chance. Probably would be getting a new battery right about now lol.

As for gas prices….love reading the PFC subreddit about people justifying the purchase of a TESLA M3 to ‘save gas’ on their paid off economy car. LoL … that was me also back in the day.

Same as my buddy buying a Model X for $80k to ‘save gas’ and paying $800/month instead of $300/month on his KIA. Mind you he just got a job for $200k/year over his current $90k/year job…

old man bought a new car recently to impress his fancy schmancy clients, scoffed at the idea of buying a hybrid like I suggested,
gas prices go brrrrr!
