Hit or Flop? Ford Maverick

I hear you but not really the same, the vette didn’t get suddenly turned into a crossover utility vehicle.

No, it got evolved from a British looking sportscar into an Italian looking sportscar.

Edit: Blue 2021 Mustang evolving into a Japanese looking sportscar:

The key in my mind is it kept the same core values. I think Ford bastardized the Mustang name (or pimped out it's child?) with this incarnation. It would have been easy enough to have a subsequent ford EV worthy of the Mustang name. The Mach E looks to be a good vehicle, but in my mind, it is in no way a Mustang other than Ford thought they could use the branding to boost sales. Start using your historically respected branding on the wrong vehicles and instead of leveraging the brand, you destroy it.

Under $25K base price, but I'm betting you'll struggle to find one like that.
Dealers will fill the lots with upscale models and make you wait for a stripper.
When Nissan sold the Micra for under $10K it was another $4K to get auto trans, A/C and electric windows - sold only as a package.

Remember this one?

Same as the BMW deal back in the day. Lease for $300/month but good luck getting one.

I worked for Jaguar dealer years ago. Sure we had a stripper version of the X-Type somewhere at a port parking lot in a harbour that brought the damn thing in. Mind you I loved the X-Type wagon. Great drive. Garbage manual transmission.

You can have it in 6 months….OR you could get this beautiful one I have in stock for only 5k more…

base one comes with steel wheels, so will be a dead give away. guarantee you won't see many on the streets or dealers.

Wonder if they on the lots yet?

I doubt it, there were barely any spy pics out before todays launch. Could go either way, bronco sports i've already seen on the road but standard broncos are still MIA.

Wheels are the simplest upgrade. But you’re right. The base models will not be easily to find.

So a hybrid Ranger with some marketing shenanigans going on? I like smaller trucks so I'm not against it per se. But this get 34 mpg hwy and the EcoBoost Ranger gets 30 mpg hwy. I guess it depends how much you're putting around town on battery.

Maverick is not Ranger - not at all. Ranger uses traditional truck construction, separate frame and body, rear axle drive, longitudinal engine, etc. Maverick is unibody, front drive, transverse engine. Mechanically, underneath, Maverick is a Ford Escape. (So is the Bronco Sport. Careful ... I said Bronco Sport. Not Bronco "not Sport". Yes, it's confusing. Bronco is the separate-frame-and-body truck-construction SUV that isn't out in the wild yet. Bronco Sport is the unibody transverse-engine different-looking-Escape CUV which is available at dealers now.)

Maverick's standard powertrain at the base price is the Escape hybrid powertrain. That is a great move. (N.B. Front-drive only with the hybrid powertrain.)

30 mpg US highway from Ecoboost Ranger is a pipe dream. Maverick, on the other hand, has a fair chance of actually getting the claimed fuel consumption.

For most people that buy pickup trucks ... Maverick will do what they actually need it to do. If you're doing heavy towing or you are actually wanting to carry long loads in the bed, they have bigger trucks in the same showroom.

One other small thing ... Maverick sits lower than Ranger. Finally. Pickup trucks have all gotten too high.

My feelings on this vehicle are mostly irrelevant, but I gotta say "Maverick" is a weird pull. I guess they assume that their target market has no existing associations with the name? I'm not saying that it's some legendary nameplate that they're defiling, but when I read Ford Maverick the image of a meh car pops into my head. Not something New and Exciting

It was a little better than the Pinto. Maybe?

How do you know all this!?
This feels like insider info lol

Edit - this doesnt use their 2.3 litre turbo 4?
First time seeing this 2.5 hybrid version
Might be a cheap long term truck if it has held up over time.

Recycling old model names Maverick that do not have equity can only be done after a longer timeframe

The Beetle and Mini and a few other were successful because of the enormous emotional and iconic connection to the original cars.

Bronco has legs but Maverick? What’s next? Pinto or Vega

I like it, kind of like a ute/pickup hybrid. Might buy one as my next work truck, need a cab over the bed tho, wonder how long before they are availiable
