Complete beginner getting Bmw s1000RR as first bike?

so which bikes do u use then?
I have a 2015 R3 that is tuned with a full exhaust some intake mod and has +3 degrees of spark. Pretty sweet R3. And I have a 2016 KRT Ninja ZX6R which is also getting done with the same treatment. Waiting on my hindle full system for that bike. I started riding dirt bikes when I was about 5 years old. I have about 20 years on and off riding experience and began riding street bikes in 2014 or 2015

Not on a SS he's not. Unless we're talking facility as per my last response.

Having an M2 for 'a few years" but not actually owning and insuring a bike means absolutely zilch in the eyes of insurance companies, nor does age really anymore, so there will be no breaks - OP is effectively a brand new rider and will be treated as such. Accordingly, choice of motorcycle
I'll post this again.
My neighbour. 26 y/o. M2. '16 S1000RR.
A tad under $5K/yr.
No facility.

Something doesn’t pass the smell test there. At all.

Not saying you’re lying. Just saying he might be, or he’s misrepresented something to the insurance company to get that rate.

Or he’s on one heck of a company / corporate / bundle plan. Potentially with an insurer that doesn’t really understand motorcycles and doesn’t really fully understand what they’ve insured - they just wanted the bundle business.

Under 30, SS, M2 is typically a kryponite combination.

I hear ya.
I picked his brain. There's no company plan, unless being asst mgr at a small chain rest is any help to him.
Lives at home, with parents.
Has car (bmw) and bike bundled, not with facility.

A lot of people here would probably be interested in knowing what company.

I’d put $5 on someone calling in with similar stats and vehicles getting a wildly different quote.

Sometimes it just doesn't make sense.
Like how a previous company black listed gsxs, tuono and BMW 1l nakeds but said np to the mt10.

I'm with allstate. House & car bundled, but they won't lump the bike in for extra discounts.
Next time I see the young fella, I'll ask what co he's with (again).

I'm up for renewal and asked what the premiums on a few other bikes were (Echelon rates only) . M2, 3yrs clean/continuous insurance, 705 rural area code.

2018 S1000rr - $9400 / yr
recent year R6 / GSXR 600 / CBR600 are all within a few hundred bucks of $4k /yr.

As a reference I paid $2400 the first year insuring my R3. Thats down to $1250 this year.

I was wondering why there is so many cheap 600/1000's on Kijiji lately...

It makes no sense to me either. But that's insurance in Ontario apparently. They won't extend coverage to me on a cbr650r or gsxs750 because they are "restricted" but no problem for an mt09 or a z900 (about 1600 each), which is just shy of being a litre bike with no fairings.

Even more mind boggling in my case is that a shadow 750 would cost me 200 more per year than either of those bikes, and a Ducati Supersport is cheaper by almost 300 per year.

Oh and another interesting tidbit my broker gave me, they've now restricted all Buell bikes for some reason.

Which broker are you currently using?

which cheap 600's are u seeing on kijiji? i dont see any

$9400 is kind of a FOAD quote, isn't it?
I was with them for 3 years and they refused to even quote it lol. Just surprised is all. Yeah, it is quite the 'get bent' quote.

Ok so my mistake, your lack of interest/ or circumstances in getting a bike is worse then I thought it's more then 2 years. Does help you?
Are you more ready for 1000cc's sport bike now that we have cleared that up?

Anywho, all the power to you if you want to do it, and can afford it. But skill wise that is a lot of bike for someone with no experience.
You could be the exception to the rule, or you could be a sad statistic.

so as i said, im not touching a 1000cc, let alone a bmw s1000rr. the purpose of this thread was to hammer in any remaining loose nails re: qualms my mind was having of "but maybe i should..."

i dont want to pay for my suicide.

jutst gonna stick to a 600cc for a few years and go from there.
