Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I don't know why more car makers don't use the skateboard approach. It's always seemed like such a waste to have entirely different underpinnings/drivetrain for different models when a single skateboard powertrain option could simply be mated to different bodies placed on it, simply altering things like ride height and mounting points to fit different cars vs trucks, etc. With electric propulsion it would seem like, done right, even wheelbase could be altered on the skateboard as needed. Yes, I know some cars are built on shared platforms (Volt and Cruze for example), but there's a lot more that aren't when it seems like it realistically could be done all whilst saving a lot of money.
Skateboard is relatively thin. It is much easier and lighter to create stiffness on a tall structure. Not sure if canoo requires some stiffness from above or if it is good enough on it's own. If any manufacturer can throw their own body on the skateboard, you could have very very different vehicles with shared underpinnings.

"Skateboard" the way Rivian and a few others have been doing basically implies separate frame and body and that means trucks. If it's unibody (to save weight) it's a little different. Normally there will be a front subframe with all the front end stuff on it, and a rear subframe with all the rear mechanical parts on it, and in the case of an EV, a battery pack bolted to the bottom of the body. Adding extra frame to join the front and rear and hang that battery from, would just add weight. Lots of manufacturers have been making those subframes common between different models.

I'll just leave this here:

Car And Driver's Test Between The Porsche Taycan And Tesla Model S Proves Porsche Was Right.

Interesting, maybe not entirely wrong, but definitely not entirely right. I don't sell vehicles until they are almost finished (<$4000 residual), for that type of transaction, EV's won't even be in the market for decades (or maybe ever as using the pack as a core for refurb may be worth more than the entire car). He may be correct on the 3 year residual of a generic luxo-car but those have never had stellar residuals anyway.

He's full of it. If anything, Teslas will depreciate because no one in their right mind would want to own one out of warranty. The whole self driving taxi thing is not happening... even if they get through the technical hurdles, it will end for each individual owner when they get the car back filled with McDonald's packaging and smelling like something died in there.

Or worse. It could become the new rental agency for nefarious characters. Saves you having to give the getaway driver a cut. Hell, if you are feeling extra dodgy, have multiple teslas all circling the area so it is less likely that people identify the one with the bad guy in it.

"FCA dominated mild-hybrid sales in 2019, says Wards

The auto-industry data tracker reports FCA accounted for 105,676 vehicles equipped with 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain technology – more than triple the nearest competitor’s total of 33,116."

What kind of marketing crapola is that! I can't believe Ram 1500s and Jeep Wrangers are considered "mild hybrids"... MILD to say the least!

Haha, that's what happens when a company blog tries to justify its' existence by releasing "news".

EDIT:
Looked up the system. ROTFL. 12 hp 0.4 kwh battery. That is less than 10 laptop batteries in a truck. Mild is an overstatement by a country mile. One stop from 100 km/h is roughly a full charge of the battery using regeneration (assuming it could charge that fast which it probably can't because its bleeping small).

Biggest reason I didn't buy one when we were looking to move on from my wife's Volt. Anything in the price range we were looking at was high mileage, and that seemed like a recipe for large and lengthy repairs in the future.

Ended up with the Ioniq instead.

^^ 591HP on the Audi vs 450HP for the Tesla. I'm not being an apologist, but this is hardly a surprising outcome.

If they want legitimacy vs "We beat a Tesla!!!" sensationalism they're going to have to make a little more effort to ensure the match is actually fair.

For a fair comparison, they should have hooked the Audi to 2WD Tesla and dragged it backwards around a parking lot.

The Tesla has a faster specs on paper, i was surprised.

Many other variables such as how the launch control/traction control manages the clearly poor conditions (it was borderline snowing in one shot), to name but one. And in this particular test, potentially a very big one - the Tesla backing off the power for a split second to potentially maintain control while the Audi just goes "balls to the wall" regardless on the drivers ability to actually manage the vehicle, could be the difference here.

Not debating the end result, but IMHO it's still not a fair comparison.

When has Tesla ever played fair when making comparisons?
