Sportbike Rally is NO MORE!!!

Good riddance. No longer fun, cool or relevant.

Don't we have this thread every year? lol

I'll probably still go up there for that weekend and Im sure many others will too. Don't need the town to OK it.

instead of hiring consultants costing 40k, can't the townspeople use their own brains and think of something?

You don't plan events like these in 10 minutes. It takes time to get it organized. Maybe not 40k worth of time but still... might as well let professionals handle it. The town recoups much more than that from all the event visitors

Not surprizing...just as has already been suggested, many will go up for that w/e and the town will get the bucks without the potential liability implications. The good ol' days are just that..the old days..it sucks to be 25 years old ya'll, too bad, so sad..

No one is going to stop anyone from going there anyhow, even if there isn't anything organized.

To be fair, it'd be hard to tell the difference between an organised Sportbike Rally and no event.

I see you're new to the world of municipal councils :)
Where I used to live they hired "expert, experienced" people to form the town's first Economic Development Council. One of the first things they did was take out a full page ad in the local paper to ask anyone and everyone to meet and tell the EDC what they should be doing. Or how about voting to hire a consultant for $50,000 to see if it is worth hiring a person for $60,000 per year to fill a new position?
Meanwhile they wanted to hire someone to shoot, script and produce little TV ads to draw tourists, by videotaping every parade, festival, fair, etc. they ran 12 months of the year. Budget? $3,000. I thought they meant per episode. Try for the whole year, lol.

Good riddance.. You have to make it through a large corridor of OPP detachments to get there and they're all out for blood during the SBR.

So they cancel because among other things lack of volnteers then propose anothr even requiring volenteers. Ya ok ..... idiots

Never had a problem myself. In fact I got pulled over at 140+ (in 70kmh) and the guy brought it down to only 10 over.

I'll still go in July to Parry Sound. It's a great ride and a beautiful area to visit.

I'm in ...... see you there! I missed last year for the first time in 13 years due to family wedding. Thinking I won't even mention to the wife there is any change. Be there Thursday by noon ;-)

This is not suprising. The event has been going downhill quick the last few years. This year's organization(if it could be called that) was a joke. One 2'x3' sign is all that told you where registration was.

Didnt have any problems. They were everywhere in and around town but nowhere out on the twisties. They were mostly giving everyone a pass. They had a map of the poker run route which the OPP could have easily just sat on and made a killing, but we didn't see one cop on it.

pretty sure port dover did the same thing.... Thats still quite popular, and not stopping anytime soon.

past 5 years it's just been going downhill. it was a lot of fun before that.....then all the cops started coming. oh well. i think it hurts the town more than anything with all the lost revenue.
