What are you currently playing?

Recommendations for any resources in what type of machine I would need to play some of the more recent games? I'm finding more time as kids are getting older (not much) but a little bit, and the PS4 playing isn't as enjoyable as it used to be.

Did you say free time?
Go riding .😆

I have been playing the new Assassins Creed Shadows game. The series has really gone down hill since its pinnacle Black Flag. Shadows has 2 characters you can play, a big black guy, think in the game he is from Portugal but I could be wrong on that. The other character is a Japanese woman. Both play very differently and are actually fun for both styles. Big guy is a brute, no sneaking around for him. Female character is for stealthy and quick moving around and up buildings. Story is pretty mediocre, world looks good but not a huge amount of diversity in the landscapes. Voice acting is again just ok, Ubisoft has really been bad at this lately with very unnatural sounding dialogue and lazy voicing acting, this one is marginally better than the more recent games in my opinion. I am playing it with a Ubisoft + subscription so not playing full price. Not a game I think I would go back and continue playing once done. I definitely prefer Ghost of Tsushima, better story and characters, but Shadows gives you a light taste of the game that is fun to explore

Also started expedition 33, if you love RPGs, especially turn based RPGs this is the one for you.

I'm trying to track down a physical copy for PS5, they all sold out nearly instantly

As a multi-decade PC enthusiast... I would just buy a PS5 these days. The price of GPUs is beyond stupid, nobody is seriously interested in manufacturing realistic midrange or entry graphics cards anymore. And motherboards are also stupidly priced, tarted up with cheap garnish but having useful features that used to be standard now locked behind $400-500 SKUs.

Speaking of Assassin's Creed, I've been playing Origins

It's been sitting in my backlog for a while, and picked it up again, while I between stuff I want to play.
Beautiful looking world and huge scale, but not a lot fun activities to mix things up, and combat is weird. I don't remember previous games being this off.

Agree Blackflag was the pinnacle of the series, I tend to not play every release and I'm a bit selective.
Also Thinking to play this:
Instead of AC Shadows, which by your description would be the better choice.

I have played all the major release games. I never finished Valhalla found the game to be horrible and such a big empty world with horrible voice acting. Origins looked good, but again such a weak story and more bad voice acting. They are even worse when you are using to playing a game like Red Dead 2 which feels so vibrant and alive for a video game and something I still find something new in just about every time I play.

Something like this would cover all current games and be playable for quite a few years:

Individual parts can be swapped depending on what's available and on sale. Either way, to get something worth building now, expect to pay around $2000 plus Windows and a monitor as needed. You can roll the dice with used build from FB Marketplace, but I've never been comfortable buying electronics used and possibly without a warranty.

The AM5 platform should be around for a while, so would be fairly future-proofed. Main point of discussion would be the 9070 XT video card vs a 5070 Ti. Canada Computers has a 9070 XT for $860 now, which makes it better value (in a world of terrible value) than the cheapest 5070 Ti, but if the 9070 cost creeps to $1000, the 5070 looks a lot better. Oh, and if you only want to play iRacing and Assetto Corsa, get the Nvidia because their old game engines favour the Nvidia cards. The flip side is I stick with AMD because their cards perform better in many flight sims, especially Microsoft Flight Simulator...
