I guess we need to go spread our need to F things up somewhere else.
On planet Earth we are killing the trees that provide oxygen and poisoning the waters that sustain life.
On Mars we have to learn to bring/create them O2 and H20 in order to survive.

If an asteroid ever hit earth at least we should have an alternative.

Yes, it's sad what has been done to Earth, but even if Earth was still perfect, we would always want to explore. It's part of what has made our species so successfull.
If you watch Carl Sagan's series "Cosmos" it opens the eyes a little bit... I'm pretty sad to say that I'm never going to get to see where it is we're going. But we won't get there until people drop their petty BS and work together.
