Getting bored of my '08 1250 and just want to try something new, havnt really been able to find a replaceable bike for my Bandit because it does everything so well. But it's getting up there 40+k on the odo and just want to try something new at this point.
The Sprint has always caught my eye.
Never rode one of these but have always liked the look of them and the sound out of that triple :). Anyone have one or been on one that can chime im?
Comfort, power delivery, and handling?
Anyone looking for a heavily modded mint 1250 with all the extra bells and whistles?

How much$$$$

40k on the odo - that's not much for your bike. It's in nice shape too. But those 1050's are niiice. Never been on one but been out with some other riders who love them. And didn't one of the rider's down at the Deals Gap house last fall have one?

A 1250 hmm.. I already manage to silly things on a 900 cruiser.. never mind a 1250 sport tourer... :cherry:

Yes Shane Alex had one but I never got to ride it. Just went deaf from that aftermarket exhaust he had lol.
Torren my bike is perfect for you, that lime green machine of yours is ready to retire ;).
I can't believe I'm even considering getting rid of the bandit :( I know I'm gonna regret it but hey time for a change I guess lol.

Have you looked at the Tiger 1050. Also very nice. I know your where you're at. I really like my FZ1 but also thinking of trading her for something silly. Though I had my mid-life crisis already.

Sometimes I think of getting an ST1300 so my wife can go touring with me and the at the same time I keep thinking of a Monster 1100 EVO or a K-Bike.

I cant buy it for 2 reasons..

1, I need my license

2, You guys would never be able to keep up :D

Seriously though, next time there's a demo day up here im going to try one.. and maybe a 'Strom

Alex's Triumph is a cool bike. Not so fond of the single side swingarm, but otherwise quite a nice bike. And for some strange reason, Alex's insurance company rates it incredibly low for rates. I think he pays somewhere around $500/yr full coverage. This alone makes it a better buy than any other bike in the sport touring segment..

I'm quoting Shaman who had one. "Almost Busa Fast"

I'd rather go for the Tiger 1050 but it looks more comfortable

Let me know when you're in the GTA, you can try my bike out anytime :) Though I'm away this coming week and the last week in August (right before labour day).
GP Bikes also allows test rides on Triumphs and Ducatis.

Exhaust was getting pretty hot, but changing to the D&D pipes and getting rid of the cat solved 80% of the issue -- now it only gets hot on really hot days.

Scott is also right, my insurance is under $500/yr for full coverage (triple-checked to be correct, too).

I think a $100 ceramic coating job on the stock exhaust could help the heat issue as well.

Had a similar problem last year, except the reason was wifey couldn't handle riding on the back of my Bandit for anything longer than an hour. And since we were planning on touring quite a lot I was looking to upgrade the comfort as much as anything. Had it narrowed down to a few bikes; fjr, ST1300, sprint st - my favorite as far as looks go, there may have been more but these ones stick out the most.

From what I was able to research, the Sprint is a buttload of fun, very sporty in terms of touring, probably closest to the Bandit, but not as good 2up. The FJR, awesome machine, more touring than the Sprint, lighter and faster than the ST1300. Decent 2up but not as comfy as the Honda. I settled for the ST1300 mainly because of reviews and price point. Having put over 20k since picking it up last year, I love this bike. As an all around sports touring machine it's simply fantastic. The wife is super happy on the back for the entire day. Perhaps not as comfy as a wing but I really like the sports part of the touring and it fills that gap for me just fine. It actually feels lighter than the Bandit, at least to me. It's most definitely not as quick as a Bandit though. Adjustable windscreen bigger fairings take away almost all wind noise and create a nice little cocoon of calm air behind the screen at highway speed. On a hot day, press a button and down it goes, giving you all the air you want.

I suppose it comes down to what you are looking for from a bike.

I've been jogging this back and forth for a solid year now. I definatly want more sport then touring.
I've been on a new Concors and FJR, fantastic machines, just not for me at this point maybe in a few more years. The ST just does it for me, gets the blood flowing and makes me want to do bad things lol.
My biggest concern was parts availability and prices.
Think I'll just ride the Bandit out, unless I get a really good offer on her ;).

My 1050 is a bit of a local legend, became known as the touring bike that could be suddenly found passing you in a variety of situations and running away from your CBR 600RR down the straights with the hard bags on. Don't know how those things happened, mind you...

I sold mine because of first year issues, particularly the brakes. I sort of regret it, as I put more km on that bike than I did on my GSX-R 750 which I also loved and owned simultaneously. They're very sporting... if you are in the market, buy a 2008+ with the Brembo front calipers and the increased heat deflection. The 1050 might be the best street motor ever... very smooth and deceivingly fast, while happy to lug down to 2,000 rpm.

And yes, they're almost 'Busa fast. A bit lighter, almost as much "go." I don't want anyone thinking that they'll just chew up and spit out their friends on GT bikes in a straight line, but they won't get left far behind unless there's one hell of a straight. In the corners, most people can't bring themselves to corner as hard as a set-up ST will do it.

I do miss her...

I bought a 1998 VFR800 about a month ago and I've only put a 1000 kms on it but how do you keep your licence? This thing wants to go 50 kph over the speed limit all of the time. If you're not doing 150 on the highway or 120 in a 70 zone then it seems like it is just another bike. Doing 20 - 30 over on my SV was entertaining. It is only 95 hp but I guess the combination of handling, gearing and engine make this thing move at an evil pace. I can't see how someone could buy a 150 hp bike and just ride around on the street. Do they ever get it out of 4th gear?
I don't have the time to do any touring or track days so I'm going to get rid of it and go back to a smaller bike that I have to stretch to reach a fun but semi-legal speed. BTW in my research into buying the VFR800, the only criticism I read about the ST 1050 is the heat from the engine.

The Triumph triple is truly one of the wonderful engines in motorcycling. Very flexible down to 2,000 rpm, and they scream in the upper rev range. Sort of the best of a twin and a I-4.
