Thoughts on 2013 Honda CBR500R?

I sat on the F and the X version and both seemed comfortable to me. I'm not tall though and def don't feel cramped. The X had a much wider seat and it felt more comfortable.

I sat on them very briefly during the show. Definitely feels small compared to a 600 but not too small. I felt pretty comfortable on them.

Which show? I didn't see one at the International Show.

They weren't at the January show. I spoke with a rep and he said those from the December show were making their rounds around north America and they were the only ones available for show.

+Sat on all 3, the CBR 500R felt closer to my CBR 250 then a 600, it was an upright position and I could flat foot it no problem ( 5' 9" 30inch length).

OP, ever thought of a Suzuki SV 650? It's easily the most sportish in terms of how it sits compared to the FZ6R or Ninja 650R.
Or,what about a DRZ 400 SM for a next bike? :D

I was hoping it would be more agressive but not by much. I think that sounds good. I'm about to put a deposit down. These bikes will be selling out.
I'm glad you can flat foot it. I'm 5'11 but I have tiny legs lol.

+1 on the DRZ-400-SM.

I wish I was wise to the DRZ when I first got my license in University. I ended up having my M2 almost expire because I was never willing to pay the high insurance premiums before I bought my first bike (2003 F4i) just so I could do the M road test last year and keep my license.

The F4i is fantastic but a DRZ400sm would have been amazing while I was in school and low on funds. Cheap insurance and still an incredible bike to ride. Check out some of the Mulholland riding videos on Youtube to see how potent the DRZ is.

It'd be a good bike to go with until you can afford the insurance, but for how much it's going to cost, you may want to consider keeping it for awhile :).

Why? Stock yes, but with a few minor mods it can and has been ridden around the world. I don't see sport bikes doing that...

I believe Wheeliboy (sp?) on here road his CBR RR across North America. I think what he meant was that there are likely much better option then the DRZ for long distance touring.

As for the CBR500 I have decided to wait a year and let the hype die down a little and also let the bugs get worked out to purchase one for the wife.

The CBR250R also has a lower redline then the Ninja 250 and it's rated well. I'd suggest go ride it at a demo day and then see how you like it. That's my plan.

I hated riding the CBR 250...its rated well from a noobs perspective. The thing would start running outta steam when the Ninja 250 is just starting to get going...

Oh common, sure DRZ can go around the world, but why when there's so many better bikes (yes a bit more money, but we are talking around the world journey, not grinding Toronto to Barrie Trip .....) ... it's like these people are to prove something ... I am not sure what.

It's a great bike, but even with an aftermarket seat you will be glad the tank will take you only 200km .... it was not made to be a long haul bike and that's why 99% people of owners use this way.

What would be a better bike for it?

what I find strange about the cbr 250 was that the rearset footpegs were too close to the heel rests...so when I'd come to a stop my calves would grind against them when I'd try to get my feet down. this did not happen on the ninja 250 as the heel rests were much farther away (in a better position any ways) ..i'd be all upset if this was to happen on the CBR 500 as well :P

Well I'll let you know my opinion after I install my Corbin seat on Monday.

I was replying to someone saying "it'd be brutal". It wouldn't. Of course there are better bikes than the DRZ AND the bike Wheeliboy took to California. I was simply replying to the brutal comment.

A Goldwing of course.

I'm not interested in riding a Gold Wing at all. Nevermind for long periods. I don't think Gold wing would be the greatest for cutting through city traffic or doing some exploring on some dirt roads...
