The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

It's been that way for many years (some of them where you wouldn't see a construction worker during the year). Thankfully, OPP isn't often exploiting that turd for revenue generation. There are more people pushing 172 tickets in those zones than driving at 80 km/h.
The reduced lanes on The Gardiner are currently a limit of 70 Kmh (though I question the legality of the signage) and I doubt anyone is doing less than 100 through there.

Hmm, <checks map> I know where those two streets are in Orangeville. At least they both have a school on them, which is probably where they'll put the camera.

The main traffic using those streets, will be local residents going to and from home, and local residents driving their kids to and from school. So, any tickets that those cameras do hand out, will be mostly to the local residents themselves, getting what they asked for.
The camera on Alder will be west of Ridell (by-pass) and there is no school on that section.

It is my hope that some of the proponents of this installation will be the first to receive tickets. I rarely use either of those streets, but those who live in the area have no other way to or from their homes. Eventually some of them will forget and drive through there at a normal speed (50 kph) and get dinged with a ticket for 10 over.

I know of a stretch of road near me where residents were constantly hassling council to slow down traffic. Council installed effective speed humps. Immediately the residents were up in arms that the speed humps required them to slow down too much. They wanted speed control measures that limited the "other" drivers but not those that lived there. Morons. Speed humps were removed shortly after to stop the whining.

Here's a real winner. Banned x9.

I blame the justice system. What an epic waste of time and money to ban x9. If you're going to ignore the first ban you get the big hammer and it doesn't involve another ban.

Is there a thread on bad pedestrians?

Wednesday I was heading west on Eglington in the cage and came to a stop in the curb lane. To my left was a snub nose cube van stopped well over the stop line.

The light turned green and just as I started to accelerate three giggling teen princesses emerged from out of sight into my path. I hit the brakes and no harm done. Enjoy our nanny state.

I absolutely hate when drivers stop past the stop line. It almost got me killed on my bike once. You can technically be ticketed for "failure to stop" for that.

And oh, the many bad pedestrian stories that i have after working in downtown TO for almost 30 years.

I haven't made one of these in quite a while, but this one has plenty of pedestrians. Can't seem to find the one in which a pedestrian walked right out in front of me, against a light, then suddenly realized she was about to be eliminated from the gene pool.

Ended as a nothing burger but I saw a semi waiting to make a left pull completely into the pedestrian walkway. There weren't any pedestrians but the car to his right had to pull most of the way into the right crosslane to see if there was any traffic to make a right on red. Details, details

Transports do that all the time when making left turns off 410 north to Steeles west, which makes it dangerous for vehicles looking to make legal right turns on red. I have no idea why people do this. It's not like the vehicle to their right is blocking their ability to see what's coming so they can make a LEFT turn on red. It's not the UK.

I just had someone force me into the oncoming traffic lanes because he decided that he really, really wanted to make that left turn in the last 50 feet before the light, while I was right next to him. Would have probably been a lot messier if the light hadn't been red at the time, meaning no oncoming traffic to thread. The guy in the car behind him gave me the WTF look of sympathy.

Of course there was a cop coming up the road to the left who was just a *little* too late to have seen it, as always seems to be the case. Damn, but I'm really starting to think investing in a 4 camera system might be a good idea.

I was riding shotgun yesterday in my buddy's Tesla S. He tends to keep it in hurry mode when in self drive and it can be a bit aggressive for my tastes. It can be worse when it's not in self drive and he's in hurry mode. With ICE, heavy acceleration usually comes with a noticeable downshift and accompanying sounds. Nada with an EV and his Tesla has lots of power.

I got used to the sound and vibration of my Sportster and when I switched to a Goldwing, I found myself unknowingly going too fast for some situations. EVs can be the same.

I've seen my fair share of indecisive squirrels run out on the road in front of me (the roads of the World are paved with them), but never a ferret.
