The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Two car crash in Hamilton. Both drivers and a passenger caught charges. Losers. All of them.

Mazda was travelling westbound on Rymal Road East and attempted to make a left-hand turn on to Fletcher Road when they were struck by a Ford F-150 truck that was also being driven by a young driver. Authorities say the driver of the Ford F-150 was allegedly going 135 km/h in a 60 km/h zone

The 16-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 was arrested and charged with two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, stunt driving, speeding and two counts of careless driving causing bodily harm.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old driver of the Mazda faces three charges, including failing to properly wear a seatbelt, driving while under suspension, and driving unaccompanied by a qualified driver, which is a G1 licence violation.

The 31-year-old owner of the Mazda also faces three charges for permitting a novice driver to contravene licence conditions, making a false statement and permitting the operation of a vehicle without insurance.

I just love it when idiots find each other, leaving the rest of the public safe.

Brampton speed camera locations.

< s >Thanks Patrick, for putting in more speed cameras, per capita, than any other city in Ontario. < / s >

Give me speed cameras over speed bumps any day, all day. Cameras are annoying when people always seem to think they trigger at 40, so they go 30. But at least it's not, speed up, slow almost to a stop, speed up, slow almost to a stop, speed up......on and on and on.

We're getting both, in Brampton. My take on speed bumps: If you're putting them in then you need to adjust the speed of the road to match the speed at which you can safely take the bumps. You don't put in big honking bumps and leave the speed at 40Kmh, because then people's cars will be damaged by doing the limit.

IIRC they put in speed bumps along the Bridal Path to slow down the drives cutting across from Leslie to Bayview. Ambulances have to either go slow or take an alternate slower route to the Sunnybrook Trauma unit. Patients with spinal injuries don't like getting air at speed bumps.

Seventeen and already under suspension? He must have aced his idiocy course.

I'm thinking that the suspension applies to the "unqualified driver", who would be the 31 year old owner of the car.

According to investigators, a 17-year-old was driving a Mazda with a suspended G1 licence on June 22, 2025 in the Stoney Creek Mountain area. The driver was accompanied by a 31-year-old passenger who owned the vehicle.

How do they suspend a G1? Take away their pencil?

If the 17 year old's G1 was suspended then there is no valid charge for driving without a properly licensed driver. It's just unlicensed operation.
Maybe there was some dispute about the suspension? Charge both ways and let courts sort it out. Or the reporting sucks. Always a possibility. Or the police don't understand the laws and charged inappropriately, also a possibility.

Here you go @Rob MacLennan , WPS targeting tinted plate covers. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. Some drivers are dumb enough to argue roadside. That should get them some value added tickets as there is close to zero chance they will pull the covers.

About damned time. Technically speaking the plate surrounds that dealerships give you are also illegal, however, you can at least see enough of the plate with those to get the number.

Guaranteed if there was a special task force of police officers (let's say 50) that were set out in the GTA the message would get around pretty quick.

Up the fine to $300 and the task force will pay for itself in a few months.

Allow parking enforcement to issue the same infraction (it's not a moving violation so should be easy) and all of a sudden the problem can get fixed pretty fast.

City doesn't like the tinted plates not because of safety, it's because it loses them revenue from cameras. Safety issues are a by-product.

If cops really wanted to up the pressure, force the vehicles with equipment violations and drivers with bad attitudes to get safeties within a week. People always complain that police are not mechanics and overstep their training. This solves that issue. There is a lot of crossover between the tinted plate crowd and the modified in a way that is unable to pass a safety crowd. That ups the $110 ticket to at least $400 and for many, thousands (or they don't get a safety and face huge roadside consequences).

Now they need to deal with motorcycles that have no plate at all.

Back to parking officers. If a vehicle is parked on the road without a plate, I'm pretty sure they can tow it. It takes a special kind of dumb to head down to impound to retrieve your uninsured and often stolen vehicle.
A car that is parked on a public street, with no visible license plate, can be deemed to have been "abandoned." Do you know what they do with abandoned cars? ;)

Careful ... lots of project vehicles spend a fair amount of time without a license plate until they're up and running ... or as parts donors.

There's ways around this to address the issue at hand without screwing over the automotive hobby, but it requires thought and consideration, not knee-jerk reactions.

Perhaps, but should such vehicles really be on a public street? What I mentioned is already standing law.
