I know nothing about managing a webpage, but have always wondered about the number of members vs. guests online and what impact that has on forum performance.
At any point in time you'll see that the number of guests online is 50, 100 or 200 times the number of members. The other day the guest number was 4,000.
Using the stats from a few minutes ago is it really possible to have 960 non members looking at the site vs 8 members. How many of these 960 "guests" are search engines, bots or other things using up forum server resources and slowing down system response time?
Is there any practical way to limit non members if this could increase performance?
I don't think it's a browser issue. IT seems there is a cycle of delays, then it's ok. Then there are days of crushing delays / lag where it doesn't even load.
Curious if anyone is going to address this or are we on our own with this??
