Online statistics

Members online 8
Guests online 960
Total visitors 968

I know nothing about managing a webpage, but have always wondered about the number of members vs. guests online and what impact that has on forum performance.

At any point in time you'll see that the number of guests online is 50, 100 or 200 times the number of members. The other day the guest number was 4,000.

Using the stats from a few minutes ago is it really possible to have 960 non members looking at the site vs 8 members. How many of these 960 "guests" are search engines, bots or other things using up forum server resources and slowing down system response time?

Is there any practical way to limit non members if this could increase performance?

Couldn't log on with MS Edge or Google Chome. Page wouldn't load, and would time out.

Installed FireFox and here I am.
I don't think it's a browser issue. IT seems there is a cycle of delays, then it's ok. Then there are days of crushing delays / lag where it doesn't even load.

Curious if anyone is going to address this or are we on our own with this??

Yes - happened intermittently for me as well.
Worked once via phone in the subway then no longer worked all day long from my phone.

Couldnt access later in the day from my work computer either.

Came home and it works after a long load-time.

A friend of mine works in (sells) security software to large organizations. He said the services that he sells, and stuff like cloudflare etc. can slow connections down to the point of failure depending on the software in use by the site. Perhaps that's an explanation for

Nobody knows.

There has been zero feedback to tell us what is going on.
Yet the political section got all this attention, to the point of shutting it down, but nothing on this, which seems like a bigger issue if your site doesn't even work half the time. 🤷‍♂️

With Cutekills permission I can work on applying a good portion of this. I believe I have all the magic buttons still despite being AWOL for a year or so. Life changed pretty dramatically (understatement of the year) for me, long story I don't really want to get into here, but if there's something I can help with in the meantime I'm willing to poke into things as time allows.

Was any of that implemented?
