Pickup Trucks

Remember the the 1964 "Chicken Tax" resulted in the US putting a 25% tariff on pickup trucks and this was never removed. So at this point we have over 60 years of inflated vehicle prices on pickup and, indirectly, the full size SUV's that are based on PU chassis.

Given the number of PU's sold over the years in the NA market I wonder how many tens or hundreds of billions in excess cost all PU owners have been paying over the 60+ years the tariff has been in place?

I thought those things had auto start / stop, or do they keep running in park?
When I got mine 2 years ago they were still having chip shortages so it wasnt available. Same with the collision avoidance thing. I have the alert but not the actual auto-braking (thankfully)

Further to cost jacking, I just went back and looked at some quotes I got when I was shopping for a company car for MY 2017, comparing a loaded Honda Accord Touring V6 sedan to a mid-tier F-150 XLT with 4x4, SuperCrew, 6.5' box, tow package and 3.5 EcoBoost.

2017 MY
Accord: $36,490 MSRP
F-150: $47,349 as optioned

2025 Equivalent
Accord (hybrid is closest): $48,471
F-150 (no employee pricing): $78,775

So the Accord has gone up just shy of 33% while the Ford has gone up a whopping 66% in the same period. And this is with the Accord changing to a much more expensive hybrid powertrain. The increasingly disconnected CPI over the same period is marked at roughly 26% (!).

In other words, the F-150 used to be great value, but it is now terrible value.

That thing is so annoyin, had it on the work vehicle once (cross traffic alert - the rear one) I was trying to make a 3 point turn and the thing kept detecting the cars patiently and politely waiting behind me and it kept slamming on the brakes. I must have looked like an idiot.

bleep bleep bleep bleep. I don't have a big issue with audible and visual alerts (ideally you can disable one or both of them). Stay the *&^*&^*&^ away from the brakes stupid computer. It makes bad decisions far more often than it saves me. My experience is the same as yours and the automated braking increases my chances of someone crashing into me as it behaves like a drunk teenager.

Oh there is such a punchline at the end of this statement 😂😂

You can easily get 15+ grand off an f150 and 0 finance

You'd be lucky if you got 500 off an accord

Same applied in 2017. Both numbers, 2017 and 2025, are sticker price, not dealer or fleet discount.
