Need safety inspection pass asap!

I hope someone actually reported him to the MTO. He should have lost his licence for that stunt.

Ted provides a valuable service to a select number of people who understands what he's about. You want an airtight safety, go to GP Bikes.

So uh - this puts me in a dilemma now that Ted doesn't do house calls anymore.

I have never ridden my bike (or a bike)... yet I need to pass the safety inspection before I can begin riding the bike.... which would mean riding the bike to a safety shop (which legally and physically I can't do).

Kind of bummed out now that I'll likely have to pay a 3 or 4 hundred bucks to get the thing towed back and forth (The bike is in Mississauga)

You can thank all the blabbering boneheads for that.
Search out the threads about Rosey Toes, here and in the archives, you'll see what i mean.

Fortunately, for a select few, that aren't rats, Ted's services will always be available. :D
The rest of you can deal with the pirates, and pay for unnecessary repairs.

You can get insurance, then a temporary permit to move a bike.

If you don't feel comfortable riding it, you can easily find a volunteer. I'll do it as long as it's warm out no problems.

Conundrum solved.

For sure eh. Thanks to Mr. Harper Ted is being selective for who he does house calls for.

You can always do what Mikbusa said.

Unfortunately for me - I registered my bike as "unfit" when I transferred ownership (per our 6 day law). When you do this - you are no longer eligible for a temporary permit. So that's out of the question. I do have some illegal plates I could put on and risk it - but I don't know.

If someone volunteers to do this they'd have to do so illegally :S

Too bad about Ted; a very valuable service, indeed.

Simple solution: find a buddy with a pick up or minivan.

Some shops will gladly pick up the bike...especially if it needs more than just a simple safety ticket. Find the closest shop to you call them offer them some extra cash for pick up, get some work done while its in there tires, brakes, oil change etc. Shops are super slow right now and are looking for something to do. Some even do winter storage where they will come pick it up...pay the storage fee get some work done pick it up when it s warm!

Or for 50$ rent a truck for the day strap it in and take it!

D

The Uhaul idea isn't a bad idea but I'm not sure how to get a 500lb bike up into the truck and secured. I am terrible with my hands.

I do have a Honda Odyssey mini-van but I HIGHLY doubt that would fit my bike lol

I bring my bike to the track on a minivan, remove the wind screen, get a ramp and you are good to go

I think JayV has a pic somewhere of his on his minivan

is it really that much for a tow?

there are a few towers and shops that include towing on this site...

Search 'mobile safety' or something like that on kijiji.
The other day I found a class A mechanic that said he would safety a bike in my garage for $170.

I am not going to go that route though.

First I am going to check the mechanic shop 500m from my house and see if they will safety a bike, if so then I will walk it there.
Otherwise I will get a uhaul truck. For $20 + $0.69/km you can get a cube van with a large ramp -- you just need some tiedowns and you are good to go.

I wish you had posted this thread one day earlier.
I rented U-haul truck from 'Sauga and took it to Ted, day before yesterday.
Cost me $110 .. I know a lot. But yeah, rented a truck with ramp, and stuff.
That price is including gas and milage i paid to Uhaul. Make sure you tie it down, or someone sits at the back.
You could also take in a van, which would be a lot cheaper. But you will pretty much have to deadlift your bike in there unless you can find a ramp

Does your Odyssey have a trailer hitch? Uhaul rents their motorcycle trailer for $15, no mileage restrictions. Definitely cheaper than the van and/or truck. Any car with a trailer hitch should be able to haul your Ninja 250 easily.

Yes it will. Remove rear seats if possible. Reduce the height of the handlebars by using a ratchet strap to compress the forks, it will make your bike several inches shorter at the front.

What kind of bike is it?!

%&^* it... I'm either going to ride it or get a u-haul trailer hitch... probably just going to ride it though.

I don't have the strength to lift this godamn bike into my minivan..

It's not that tough. Find a 2x10 to use as a ramp and get a neighbour to help. Easy.

Um. Hold on now. I think I'll have to burst your bubble.
If you get insurance fraudulently, do you really think they will pay a claim?

Been there, done that... My last bike I was riding under the previous owner's name for awhile. Just make sure to get insurance.
