Motor Oil

Every Amsoil thread gets corrupted by Amsoil dealers that it's hard to have any proper discussion of Amsoil products. I'm sure it's good oil, but probably not the best thing since sliced bread.

Might want to see what the oil analysers over at bobistheoilguy forums have to say about it.

Personally, people pay way too much attention about oil. Buy decent oil and change it regularly and you'll fine.

For whatever it's worth, my bike has had Rotella T6 and OEM Yamaha filters (oh nooooo...) for the large majority of it's life and is perfectly fine. 95k km and doesn't burn a drop of oil and valves have not needed an adjustment at the last and only inspection at 86k km.

I've also seen many cars with over 300k km that have only had OEM filters and whatever bulk oil the dealer buys on the cheap running just fine.

Since we are on the topic of oil. Can someone explain how can Shell Rotella T6 oil which is supposedly a diesel engine oil used in a motorcycle gasoline engine ?

Thanks.

My old f4 had just about 100k on the clock, i put Motul 5100 in it and a OEM filter. My 08 i use OEM always, no issues so far. Always wondered if switching to a specific oil was worth it.

Hate to say it but.....google it. You'll be glad you did. Tons of information that will convince you.

lol. did he seriously get banned for his signature.

Just wanted to get general feed back regarding the Amsoil for SS bikes. I currently run Motul 300v.
Amsoil MCF is great oil. Only thing it's got over 300v is some anti-corrosion agents. If you can get it cheaper than 300v then go for it. MCF is wholesale $37.50 for the 3.78L jug.

Amsoil also makes the best oil filters on earth, if you let me know what bike you've got I can tell you which one is for yours. 99% of all sport bikes use EA15K12 (short) or EA15K13 (long) :)

He's not banned.

The amsoil filter for your bike is listed as the EA15K12 (short). The additional filter clearance for your bike is listed as pretty big if running the factory headers so you could probably squeeze on the EA15K13 (long) filter. I always recommend using the largest filter that'll fit on your bike (extra oil capacity, extra filtering media, etc.).

Prices are $12/$13 for the short/long filters (wholesale).

And I saw your sig, can you do mugs? I need:

Because oil is oil. The vehicle-specific branding is just marketing for the most part. As long as the oil doesn't have something in it that messes with the clutch, it'll be fine.

I run T6 in all 3 of my vehicles and ran it in two past ones, without a problem. Only one of them was a diesel.

Oil marked JASO MA or MA2 does not have the stuff in it that's bad for the clutch. Just so happens that's what diesel engines like too. So if you find oil that's at least the API spec called in your manual (you did read it, right?) like SJ or SG for older bikes, and JASO MA you can use it in your bike. Mobil 1 car oil is the worst choice (no JASO) . Containers that have a picture of a motorcycle on them are usually a good choice.

Yikes. I get my Purolator PureOne filters for like $5 each.
The next best filter to Amosil ;) Where do you get them? Before the EA line of Amsoil filters came along and PureOne was top notch I search far and wide for PL14610 but could never source any for any reasonable price. If I bought a case of 24 I could get em cheap, but never found anyone that already had em in Canada.

WIX makes filters for amsoil. If your looking for amsoil filters I think I can still get them. I'll have to look at my book.

I just ordered and received Amsoil oil and an oil filter for my bike. Will see how it works out. :)

I'm an amsoil preferred customer, no problems getting filters ;) I was asking about the Purolator PureONE (not that it really matters anymore).

Which filter did you get? There was a TSB on EAoM102 and I would suggest not using it if that's the one you got, use EA15K12 instead.
